I am getting an error 32 - unuspported print cartridge on my T620 printer. I have used various cartridges - lexmark brands and the error does not go away. Is there some switch or sensor that needs to be adjusted to fix this? The printer is currently unusable this way.
Firstly, switch on the printer without a cartridge inside. Put in the old cartridge and if you get the Error 32, it could be poor contact. Clean the contacts in the printer (contact with the chip on the cartridge). If you don't get Error 32, there could be a problem with the chip contacts on the new OEM Lexmark cartridge or a faulty chip. As for other brands or remanufactured cartridges, it could be compatible parts they used. The chip and toner wheel have to be compatible.

If you receive an error message that tells you that you have an
unsupported cartridge, then you need to remove the cartridge. After
installing the appropriate type of ink cartridge you should no longer
receive the error message and you can then perform a print test. Instruction on how avoid unsupprted cartridge message.
Lift up the scanner unit (with the power
on). The printer cartridge carrier will move to the top of the printer
into the loading position.
down on the lever above the cartridge and then raise the cartridge lid.
Remove the cartridge and make sure the cartridge supports no more than
four colors (cyan, yellow, magenta and black) and a speed of 22 parts
the compatible ink cartridge into the carrier and then lower the
cartridge lid. Close the scanner unit, then make sure plain white paper
is inserted into the paper loader.
the "OK" button on the control panel and the unsupported cartridge
message should be gone. Press the "Select" button and a test alignment
page will print.
You could find the root cause by performing different steps. One of the
easiest methods is that you need to make sure that the plastic
protective tape which is usually used on the new black cartridge is off.
Usually the user makes this mistake. This mistake might occurs due to
absent-mindedness. The reason could also be some distractions which
happen while loading the new black ink cartridge.
Unsupported Cartridge; Error: "Unsupported cartridge"; Incompatible cartridge error; Incompatible cartridge in the printer; Cartridge not recognized
What you will see When a cartridge is inserted, an Unsupported Cartridge error message is displayed on the printer operator panel. Affected printers This issue affects printers sold exclusively in the Dixon Store Group (DSG) in Europe and in Circuit City in the U.S. NOTE: The cartridges for these printers are sold exclusively in these stores or on their websites. Explanation The printers listed in the table below are compatible with a #2 cartridge (in single cartridge printers) or a combination of #2 and #3 cartridges (in two-cartridge printers). They do not support the standard color 28A 35, and Mono 29A 34 ink cartridges. If the standard color 28A 35 or Mono 29A 34 ink cartridges are used in these printers, they will fail to print and the printer will post an Unsupported Cartridge error message. Solution Lexmark recommends using either a #2 cartridge for single-cartridge printers or a combination of #2 and #3 cartridges in two-cartridge printers.

Ink cartriges have chips in them, if the printer does so many prints without getting the "I've had a new Original Cart fitted" it will stop untill, you give it one, regardless if there ink or not
Im afraid it doesn't care that you only need to use the colour cartridge, it is designed to cost you money and make money for lexmark not refillers.
Welcome to our modern world, manufactures make the ink hard to recycle by incorperation of expensive chips that makes refillers, unable to make a easy dollar, because if that want to make cartridges that work they must also fit the expensive chip.
All empty cartridges have a little ink left in them because getting air in ink lines is not a thing we want.
You cannot use Lexmark toner cartridges in IBM models and vice-versa because the toner carts have a smartchip that identifies the toner to the printer. IBM printers expect to see IBM toners and Lexmark machines expect to see Lexmark toners. If you put the wrong cartridge in you will get '32' Unsupported print cartridge error.
Some refillers may swap the smartchip when they refill cartridges and this would be the only reason why you may have seen it done before.. IS your current toner a refilled one? It's technically possible to make an IBM printer into a Lexmark printer to accept Lexmark toners by replacing the System Board... but why would you bother doing that...just use the right toner.
just click on them to say ok, and accept the unsupported cartridges ( if applicable ) do you get the choice.
certain printers, have an option in printer prefs, to change cartridges. check the cartridges are the same ( or compatable )
if the cartridges have a chip fitted, they need to be reset if recently filled.
hope this helps mike @ Compurepair.
