I'd check the activity monitor...(in utilities short cut shift apple A). See if anything is causing a problem.
Select all processes at the top
If you sort by the CPU column and something is running at a really high percentage then that's where your problem lies. First of all I'd Quit that process and then look for incompatibility issues with your current OS version (under about this mac)

My printer driver caused all sort of problems and caused over heating mac and very short battery life.

THis is normal. It is based on the amount of CPU being used. If you are running a lot of apps or CPU intensive apps then it will run hot. If you use Cmd-space and type 'activity' you will select Activity Monitor from the list. In there you can see what is using the most CPU. (get back to me if you need more info on using this app). Playing videos uses quite a lot of cpu for decompression. Playing music doesnt. Check also howmany widgets you have open by pressing F12. Close them down by holding the alt key and clicking the x in the top left corner of each.

This should help you reduce the heat a bit. Also think of getting somthing like the iLap. I use this myself (using it right now infact) and it's pretty good.

All the best

Macbook 7.1 overheats

Take it to a trusted computer dealer and have them replace the thermal paste between your heatsink and your processor. Also, make sure to blow out your fins that blow the hot air out and pull the cool air in. This should resolve the overheating issue.

Dell Inspiron 1525 Hard drive

There is a trick to getting an overheated and damaged hard drive to run for a short period of time, maybe enough to get your data off of it. Place the damaged hard drive in a tupperware bowl with a lid. Get a can of refrigerant from an auto parts store, wear the refrigerant with the attached hose and direct the refrigerant into the bowl keeping as much in there as possible. This will freeze the bearings and in a lot of cases allow the device to work for short period of time. This of course will not work if the problem is a damaged read/write head or controller card.

My MacBook Pro MB766LL/A

First of all, do a "Software Update". There may be a firmware update for the laptop since it was manufactured.
Also the macbook pro does run hot, especially if you are doing anything cpu extensive. You could launch Activity Monitor and see if some process is hogging the cpu.
I have an antec cooling pad under my macbook pro. This helps a lot.
