It sounds like you have a faulty black cartridge. Even the genuine cartridges can have this problem

What would make my black word barely print when my color is fine

If it's only the black that's effected it suggests that it's a problem with the toner cartridge rather than the printer itself. It may be a faulty toner cartridge, especially if you use cheap compatibles rather than genuine HP branded ones. You could try taking it out of the printer and giving it a good shake to make sure that the toner is evenly distributed in the cartridge. If that doesn't help then I think you need to replace the black cartridge. I had that problem with one of my colour cartridges but everything was fine after I replaced it.

Uneven color printing...magenta only on sides of photo...not in the middle

Definitely a faulty cartridge. It is probably a build up of toner on the doctor blade or a deformed doctor blade.

Your toner usage will depend upon how much of each color toner is used on each page. (To conserve colors when printing in Black and White only, specify monochrome in your printer setup) <div>I had similar problems when printing publicity flyers. The toner cartridges claim to be good for about 2000 prints each, but I was lucky to get 3 or 400 pages when printing blocks of color. The TN115 cartridges hold significantly more toner, and the cartridges that come with the printer are TINY.</div>

How do I change the toner?

The Fax-2480c does not use toner cartridges.
This is an inkjet and so uses ink cartridges.

There are 4 cartridges, black, yellow, cyan (blue) and magenta (red). If any of these cartridges are empty, you need replace them.

This machine takes LC-51 cartridges.
You're probably out of warranty so jsut get refills... it's cheaper

Black toner replaced; now all black printing comes out faded grey

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridges that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

If you have changed the toner cartridge, the printer must complete a calibration cycle (up to 150 seconds). If you open the door before the Ready indicator on the control panel lights up and the Error indicator turns off, the printer stops and repeats the calibration cycle.

1. Open the Status Display (double-click on Status Display icon in the system tray on the lower right-hand portion of the task bar, OR click Start/Programs/KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2300W Utilities/KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2300W Status), and then check which toner color is empty.
2. From the Print menu choose Toner Replace...
3. In the Color list box, select the color of the toner cartridge to be replaced (CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW, or BLACK).
4. Select the capacity of the new toner cartridge (1500 or 4500).
5. Click OK.
6. When the toner indicator on the control panel starts flashing, open the printer's front door. The carousel is automatically repositioned so that the appropriate toner cartridge can be removed.

2300-1.gif8. Support the middle of the cartridge with your left hand, and then pull out the cartridge.
2300-2.gif9. Remove the new toner cartridge from its shipping carton.
10. Remove the protective cover clearly marked 'Remove'.
Each toner cartridge has a colored end that corresponds to a color inside the cartridge slots. Always install the toner cartridge in the slot of the same color.

Samsung CLX-2160, keep getting faded toner stripe down page. changed toner numerousof times The same problem occurred for me after only 300 pages. The black color on the all prints is faded out on the...

Everyone will tell you that it's the Imaging Unit - happy to say that's not true. If it was the imaging unit the colors would not come out right either. I bet if you print a test page that all the colors come out fine across the page. It's only the black.

Also - if you replace the black toner cartridge, or reinstall your printer and drivers like some people will tell you - still no results.

The problem is in the black toner cartridge PATH inside the printer. Something has jammed it up a bit. Try taking out the black cartridge and blowing firmly into the small hole at the bottom of the spout that looks to have a sponge inside. Use a straw and make sure your air blown is dry. Then lightly tap the cartridge a few times. Then use the straw and once again blow very firmly inside the receiving path (inside the printer) for the spout on the cartridge. Make sure you are blowing into the spout path at the bottom - not the gear drive path in the middle - as that will not do any good.

Replace the cartridge, warm up and print another black and white page. You should see that the faded out section is gone or diminished in size. If it is not gone, simply repeat the above steps until it is gone. You will see that the faded out strip gets smaller and smaller each time until it's gone. I had to repeat five times, but eventually got it corrected. Now prints like brand new so don't get discouraged.

Still using color toner when printing in black

Check the black toner cartridge. Most printers that use multiple cartridges will use the black cartridge as long as it has toner in it but will then start using the color toner to do the black/grayscale when the black cartridge is empty.
