My home theater receiver says that my movies are being played in Dolby Digital 3/2.1. Is that the same as Dolby 5.1?
I have the same problem.

My cable box and HD DVD are supposidly sending out the audio signal in Dolby 5.1, but my 5 channel amp shows on its digital display it is recieving the signal in Dolby 3/2.1 I am using an optical patch cord. I have tried a HDMI cable with the same results.

Yes, it is the same. Some recievers just have it labeled diff'rently than others. Yours shows that you have 3 front channels/2 surround channels and one low frequency channel.

Hello Volla7.
Here is a link to Panasonic parts: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/Epartr/PartsList.asp

Here's a link to the actual Panasonic SC-HT743 product page.

Not sure what you mean by "yerking" - I am guessing skipping. DVD players will get warm in normal operation. If using a fan, make sure the airflow is correct and not redirecting warm air back into the unit. If the DVD is skipping, try anohter disc to see if the results are the same (rented DVDs are notorious for scratches). If you have a suspect DVD, purchase a cleaning/restoration kit.

Hope all of that helps give some direction.
