D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless

Help. I'm almost ready to chuck my DLINK Router.
I have 2 computers going through the router. One is
hard wired, the other wireless.
The hard wired computer has a consistant internet
The other wireless only gets 54 late at night. Between 10am
and 9PM on weekends I get as slow as 9 and signal is
very week. I turn off all tv's, cell phones etc..
but it does not help. I'm in a detached house in Thornhill Ont.
There are about 5 other wireless networks around,
but they are weak.
On phones, you can change channels. Can we change
router channels?
Any ideas?
Ready to give up!!!!!

Tried changing channels, did not really help. BUT, the problem did get resolved.

In the grouping of ‘did you plug it in’ I found the problem.

The computer that is hard wired to the router is in my daughters study room (high school honors). Apparently what she has been doing on weekends, is dropping the antenna so she can shuffle papers around. I never saw this as my computer is in my computer room (where else would it be).

When I went to change channels from 6 to 7, I noticed that the antenna was not upright.

In fact it was so loose it would not stay up. When I rotated the antenna about six times clockwise, it tightened up.

And surprise, from 9 back to 54.

Yes you can change the router channel. Log into the router at If you have not been here before the default username/password will be admin/admin. Check under your wireless settings which channel is selected and try another. They will all default to channel 6 I think. If a neighbour has the same router with the same default this could be causing your contention problems. You can download a manual for your router at Good luck.

hi there,

Hard reset the router (you would see a hole when you flip the router over insert tooth pick or pin for 30 seconds and restart the connection)

Swap the micro filters(spilter, the one which is connected to telephone socket)

If it is not working call your Internet service provider.

Help set up wireless router

do a hard reset on it first (press and hold down the small reset button for about 10 seconds usually located at the back of it).

On your wireless connection icon, right click then select view available wireless networks, check if it finds your dlink then connect to it. If your router has a wireless key, its gonna ask for it before you can connect to it

Dlink di-524 connect to RV042

You need to cascade the Dlink wireless router to your RV042.

Suppose your RV042 has a default IP Address of, and the DLINK IP uses Your Physical connection is from the regular port of the RV042 going to the WAN/Internet Port of the DLink wireless router.

Once you do that, your Dlink router should automatically obtain an IP from the main router. If it did, configure your wireless settings and you should be able to connect via wireless.

This is just one way to cascade your router to another router.
