The DVR670 only works for about 6 months then errors out.
These units are JUNK. Dont waste your money on any Toshiba products. Their customer support sucks.
1) the batteries will be the same type and full charged
2) clean the contacts battery from dirty, dust, oxide or corrosion
3) retight the spring contacts battery with pliers for a GOOD contacts
4) open the remote.control and clean the keypads switch, from dirty, dust, oxide, Open contacts, or Bad contacts. they emite a good signal infrared from SYScon transmi vs Syscon receiver.
see the block diagram. If doesnot resolve the problem go to the repair shop TV for fix it.
God bless you

not sure but it sounds like you need to push the dvd button itself before dvd functions will work-it's to the left of the pause button. same thing happened to me and when i try that it works. remote seems to default to vcr i guess ....
SOURCE: The remote to my RCA
You could try a universal remote (if one is available which will provide most functions to your player, such as STOP/PLAY etc.).
You can try a simple test on your existing RCA remote to see if it provides a 'frequency pulse'. Turn a radio on, select a black section of the AM band (not FM) turn volume up halfway, place remote near it, listen for pips and noises from the speaker(s) - if this occurs, the remote itself is OK. This is the cheapest idea to try first before going out and buying a new remote.
* If the unit does not respond to the universal (regardless of whether a
remote code is required or not) then the IRD within the unit itself and
its associated controller circuit may have failed (hence why the remote
does not work). Repair of this requires a qualified workshop technician (because of the many surface-mounted components in the IRD controller circuit). *
But try the original remote-to-AM-radio test and/or purchase a universal remote or similar if necessary.

Hi, well no there are NO buttons controls or otherwise that can or will disable the unit,in the manner you describe..
What has most likely happened is that due to the lack of use, the unit has no doubt either a faulty sensor(s) or more likely the Mode Switch, these are the most commonest problems. Especially the Mode Switch, the contacts inside depend on use to keep them clean and making good contact, if not used for a while a tarnish builds up on the contacts and it will not make a good connection, thus it faults. You see when used, the action of being set and unset, burnishes the switch contacts in this special type of switch, and keeps them clean and working. Now the only way to "Fix" this if indeed I am correct, is by replacement of said component. I have seen this type of thing many times in my shop.
The repair, shouldn't be too expensive, say around $100 - $200.00? depending on things. However the advise i always give is to get the unit looked at by a professional and ONLY ask first for a "Quote" as to costings etc. Then at the least you can make up your mind as to repair or replace?
