Question about Sony HandyCam DCR-SR200E HDD Camcorder
My husband and I purchased our Sony DCR-SR200 about 15 months ago and for about 3 months now we've been having problems with the LCD screen. At first when we tried to take pictures/video the screen was dark, but you could make out images, and sometimes the screen would suddenly work again, as if there was a loose wire that made the connection it needed to make. Now the screen is always dark except if you're outside you can see the screen perfectly, which leads us to believe it's something with the backlight perhaps. The camera functions perfectly and we have been able to use it to record and take pictures still.

After researching various flexible cable numbers from different posts, I found that the SR-200 uses a unique cable, FP-610, part number 187145711. This has been discontinued and replace with part number 187145721 (same cable also used in DCR-SR300).
If you are in doubt with your camera, just take it apart up to the point of seeing the ribbon cable. The part number is printed on the side.
I found two sources for this so far, www.nexttronics.com and https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-parts.aspx. Price ranged from $30 to $40 plus shipping.

If the issue persists, perform
a power resetting of the Camcorder. To perform power resetting, please remove
the battery pack, turn the Power switch to ON for more than 15 seconds, turn
the Power switch to OFF position and then reinsert the battery pack.
If the issue persists even after performing all the above-mentioned steps, service is required.
