How to load the film

My 93yr old father-in-law recently passed away; He left a box full of movies that he used to show on the Bell projector, (Bell&Howell Autoload 245 8mm) about 130 of them. Most have nothing but woods or rivers. It costs a fortune to have the film converted as I just paid $120 for 2 reels full of nothing but woods in Michigan and N. carolina

I would like to see what's on the reels before I take them to a shop again, but have no idea how to load the film in the projector. I have no use for this worthless thing besides casting away the useless reels so would rather not pay scalpinng prices to Ebay people who claim to sell the manual but won't guarantee that it has ''the film loading procedure''.

Any help with the film loading sequence possible?

Thanks

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

We need a manual for an old Philips radiogram to assist in the restoration process please. It was made in Great Britain it is a Philips type AG 10006-15 No: M13395. If anyone can help it would be greatly...

If you know roughly which year it was made you might be able to track it down in Newnes Radio And Television Servicing Books. They list models made in each year. For example 1960-1961 will feature the models from those years, but you might also find it in the next book (1961-1962) or the previous (1959-1960).
I believe they still make them, but the are expensive, however many public libraries have full sets and will allow you to photocopy pages.

I have a Grudig TK40 reel 2 reel that does not work.

I cant tell you where it take it to get it fixed, but I can offer some advice, as I've recently got a TK41 grundig reel to reel machine.

I'm assuning that the unit has not been used for a while, as mine wasn't.

Mine had the same fault, it was dead when it was plugged in. Knowing that it hadn't been used for some years, I summised that the on off switch was probably dirty... I squirted some switch cleaner in and around the switch...wiggled the switch on and off for a few mins...then plugged in and hey presto it worked!

I hope this info may help you.

PS. maybe you should look into getting the tapes converted onto CD/MP3, so you have a back up.

Disc Read Error Sony DVD Handycam

Does your camera have other outputs, i.e., composite-video and L/R audio ?

If the disk "plays" inside your video-camera, then use a "video-capture" USB device, to "play" the movie into the USB device, and "record" from the USB device into your computer.

Pace Sky plus box

You have 2 choices, software reset or hardware reset. It's up to you what you try, but please read the advice in full before starting - if you break your box, please don't blame me!

SOFTWARE RESET
The following is copied from http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=73309

This is useful if your disk usage percentage doesn't go down even after clearing programmesfilms off.

The following is offered on an ADVICE only basis, take care when making changes:

WARNING following this advice is totally at your discretion and anything which happens to your digibox as a result is your responsibility, not mine. You will lose all recorded programmes from your Sky+ Planner.

Sky tech support can talk you through performing a system restore over the phone. To do this yourself, press 'services' on your Sky plus remote, then select option 4. Next press 0, 1, select - you should now see the engineer's menu. Choose option 8, 'Full System Reset'. The box will now take a few minutes to reset itself

Try pausing or recording again, and if the problem persists disconnect the digibox from the mains power. Press and hold the 'left' and 'right' navigation buttons on the front of the digibox whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding the buttons in for about 20 seconds, and when the ring of light on the front comes on, press the 'select' button on the front of the digibox (between the left and right buttons you were holding). The Sky+ recording logo lights will spin backwards and, according to the Sky engineer, this will "clear the hard drive".

Once this is done, disconnect the digibox from the mains power again and this time press and hold the 'back up' button whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding it for about 15 seconds until 3 lights on the front of the box come on and you get a full-screen message saying "Updating system software. Do not disconnect mains supply or satellite dish."

Leave the digibox doing its thing for about 10 minutes and it should be fixed! Try pausing and recording things again... hopefully you've just saved yourself £65

If you've not been so lucky, you'll have to get Sky to fix it for you. Some people report that if you ask to cancel your subscription Sky sometimes offer a free callout to fix the problem - you're more valuable to them as a paying customer than the cost of an engineer callout

Sky customer service's (seemingly unpublished) freephone number. You need to dial 0800 731 6965, then option 2, option 4 March 9, Sky have closed this Freephone number
HARDWARE RESET
Copied from http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=484098

Full System Reset via front panel:
  1. Remove power at mains.
  2. Hold LEFT+RIGHT.
  3. Apply power, wait for ring to light.
  4. Release LEFT+RIGHT, press SELECT.
  5. Ring cycles backwards while disk is quick formatted.
  6. If format sucessful PLAY lights up, if not RECORD lights up.
  7. Box goes into standby - wait 30 seconds are wake it up.

Warning: Full System Reset deletes all your recordings and planner entries.

Good luck!

Disc Read Error Sony DVD Handycam

I am just throwing these out there as food for thought. Make sure you ended the recording on that other side. If a DVD is left open(meaning more could be written to it) other dvd players have a hard time reading the info. Put in one of the 2 sided disc's that worked. how does the camera recognize the disc? Then insert the troubled disc and see if the disc info is being read the same. i.e. disk size, manufactuer, open/closed? Check for a firmware upgrade for your DVD burner/player(s). Let me know how things work out. Tim
