Question about LaCie mini (300998U) 250 GB Hard Drive
I purchased a LaCie mini 250 GB Hard Drive at the Apple Store because my hard drive on my i-Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Processor:800 MHz PowerPC G4; Memory 768 MB SDRAM) was getting full. My iMac doesn't have a lot of USB or Firewire ports so I chose the LaCie for not only the space but for the hubs, too. The hard drive works great but the hubs don't work at all. Examples: When I plug in my Canon PowerShot S50 it doesn't launch iPhoto and I can't download photos to the computer unless I connect the camera into my computer or keyboard. When I connect my iPod shuffle to the Lacie it doesn't bring up iTunes and it won't connect to the computer. I have to plug the iPod shuffle directly into the computer for it to work. I also tried to connect my keyboard and mouse into the Lacie just to see if they would work, they don't. I went to Apple's site to read about all the things you can connect to the LaCie mini 250 GB Hard Drive. Here's how they describe it: "With four USB-powered hub ports and two FireWire-powered hub ports, you can extend the capability of your computer; double or triple its power or even more with seemingly endless expansion possibilities. Thanks to the mini Hard Drive & HUB, you can connect all of your hardware peripherals at once like your iSight, iPod, mouse, keyboard, camera, video recorder, speakers and other hard drives. Even use the USB ports as a hub when the drive is connected to the host via FireWire." That's about it. Any ideas? Please help! Thanks!
There is not enough power coming through ports each device re-quires 1-5 volts to run and if your mac has not got enough power to boot all devices then sadly all things pluged into will not reconise and with mac the os is not properly designed for it now if you got yourself an external usb 2.0 hub powered then yes all devices will be seen in mac windows firewire is unsafe at moment for this to happen ask them what system they had had configuration on. hope this has helped
