Question about Sony KP-61HS20 TV

1 Answer

Blurry video Hello, I need help troubleshooting this tv. All the video (DVD, video, cable, etc.) looks very distorted. Almost like the screen is concaved. I see "shadows" of different colors as if all the colors of the crt aren't lining up correctly. Someone told me of a "prizm" may be going out. I know what a prizm does but not too sure how it relates to tvs. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you.

You got some wrong advice I am afraid. Hope it was not a Tech that told you this LOL As i would never call them again!! LOL No such thing as that in a projection TV set. Your problem is the convergence IC's inside the TV set, on a printed circuit board. Both will need to be repalced. If you have some solid state repair experience, you could unsolder these IC's and reinstall new ones, but if you do not please play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck.

Hello

Make sure TV is on the correct channel or input. Check the cables for correct routing from TV to any other devices. Check cables to ensure they are tight and secure.

An analog signal converted to high defintion resolution will cause lines, blurriness or fuzziness in the picture. Change the resolution to a lower or native setting using the media device (cable box, DVD,). This may be an issue that requires a service call to cable provider.

A problem on one channel may just be a error on that channel. If using an antenna, it might need to be adjusted in order to ensure good signal strength. For digtal channels, go into TV Menu. Check the DTV signal. Weak signal can cause picture distortion.

If another device is being used such as a cable box, DVD player or VCR switch between devices and test picture. Check routing of cables that are used to control the image. This should be a series of red, white and yellow cables.

If a VCR with a cable box, make sure the VCR and TV are set to the correct channels for video signal to pass through. If problem is still occuring, try another set of cables. bad cables can cause picture distortion.

Bad cables can cause picture distortion as well. Try another set of cables. If picture is better than when using the cables replaced, this was the issue. If cables are not an issue TV may require service.

Hi,

Below are some troubleshooting tips for a TV that has a fuzzy or blurry picture;

If your Plasma or LCD TV picture is blurry or fuzzy there are several things that may be causing the problem. It's worth running through the following list before seeking service. You may find yourself saving the full cost of a TV repair.

Make sure you are using the appropriate cable box for your TV. If you have a high-definition TV you should also be using a high-def channel box from your cable provider. Watching standard definition channels on a high-def TV can make the picture look distorted and fuzzy.

Not all cable channels are broadcast in high-definition. When you stretch a standard definition picture to fill the full frame of your wide-screen TV it may look distorted. You can try changing your TV display settings to show standard-def channels at their native resolution. This will create black or gray bands on either side of your picture.

Ideally all of your video components will be connected to your TV with HDMI cables. Your next best option will be component video cables. If your cable box does not have HDMI capabilities, contact your cable company about upgrading your box to one that does include HDMI.

Make sure there is no glare on your TV from a window or other strong light source. This can significantly degrade the quality of the image you are watching.

If your TV has digital noise reduction, try turning that feature on.

You can adjust your TV's sharpness and picture modes to see if that improves picture quality.

Try plugging the power cord into a different electrical outlet and/or surge protector. You may be receiving electrical interference through your power cord.

Trying moving any nearby electrical devices away from the TV. They may be creating interference that can degrade the picture quality.

Let me know if the above helps or not, so that I can direct you further on what do next.....

Best regards.

Picture distorted

Hello buddylaw,

Can you post a picture of the TV screen with the problem? It will help in the diagnoses. It looks like you may have a thermal sensitive component causing this issue. But I will have to seen a picture of the screen to properly diagnose this problem as to the possible section that may be causing this problem.

Thank you.
