My washing machine is doing the same thing. I called Kenmore and found out the basket has a ten year warranty, but when they came out they wouldn't replace it, because it was the inside of the basket! Does that make sense? So they would not replace it, they wanted $300.00 to replace it.

Re: Wasing machine leaves rust spots on clothes.
Check the basket of the machine for rust spots on the basket if thats the case the basket should have a 10 year warranty depending on the age marks are either caused from that or the dryer. if its frigidaire the dryer then the front seals probably need to be changed make sure to find out exactly which machine its coming from

times when we cook in the kitchen, we get splattered with oils that
aren't easily visible. Very often these oil spots pick up dirt from the
wash water. These stains don't usually get noticed until after the
clothes have been dried. The best thing to do is to rub detergent or
stain remover right on these spots and let them sit about half an hour.
Then rewash the clothes in as hot water as the material can take
I would seriously consider getting a newer machine. A brown stain could be rust, or an oil leak. Either way it probably is not worth putting any money into. If this helps, please rate my answer. Thank you.
Sounds like rust stains, coming off the inside of the drum, you will need to find the source of the rust. Maybe a loose screw or something metal stuck inside the drum. Carefully run your hand around the inside of the drum and check for rough jagged edges to identify anything that should not be in there.
Since this happened from day 1, your water may be the problem. Do you have well water? If so, get a softener system. This will get rid of the iron, which is responsible for rust stains. I really doubt that a new machine would cause rust or grease.
Why didn't you do something five years ago when you first noticed this? It will be much more difficult to get a resolution from the manufacturer after5 years.
this is a common problem with aging kenmore washers (leaving coins in your pockets speeds it up).
the basket is metal with a porcelain coating. the porcelain coating wears around the edge of the holes in the basket first, leaving bare metal.
when the washer spins the centrifugal force pushes the clothes against the basket and a little into the holes. this leaves little rust rings on your clothes.
lumpy816 is correct in saying that your basket should be replaced. it does require a special tool, and the basket is expensive.
in the mean time try to take the clothes out immediately after the washer stops spinning. and if you get desperate you can clean thee inside of the tub with a rust remover like LCR or a strong toilet bowl cleaner that removes rust.
I'm sorry but the white spots will be due to bleach. It may be that there was undissolved bleach in the washer after the first load. Maybe some of it came out with the whites and lay in wait in the basket.
I doubt the makers would guarantee anything for 7 years, so no free basket or installation is likely. Seems there is a chip in the enamel and dampness / water from the previous wash days before sits there collecting iron as rust particles.
For the time being you could try rinsing the machine out before the first load. That might prevent the rust marks or reduce them.
