Question about Radio Shack VGA PC Camera Webcam

2 Answers

Lip sync The audio is way ahead of the video; the higher I set the resolution, the worse the problem becomes. The camera appears to be REALLY slow. Is there an obvious fix, or is this just the nature of the beast? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite notebook with a 1.6 GHz Centrino Duo; 2 GHz of RAM; and XP Pro. Seems to me this ought to suffice. -- JD

This is the way the webcam will be, a lower resolution will refresh the picture at a faster rate. What are the specs on your computer as they may also help the problem, but this is normal for web cams

That means that your computer does not have enough resources to manage the camera, let me know what CPU you use and how much RAM is installed on your computer, you may need an upgrade.

2 GB Ram is enough to manage this camera, however , try lowering down camera resolution settings, if this sort out the problem, then you either need to add more resources, or to reinstall Windows to fix the problem.

Some receivers have a sound delay control which you can use to try to sync them up. You didn't name yours so one does not know. I don't think this unit has that function. Look in the manual.

Took video and put on pc. The words are ahead of video

Lip sync problems, I've heard that the best way around that is to keep your clips to less than 15 minutes.

I avoid the issue entirely by copying to a DVD recorder with a hard disk drive, edit on the recorder then right to DVD.

The downside to all this is its more difficult to add backing music etc.

Synchmaster 913 The unit displays 'Not Optimum Mode 1280 x 1024 60hz' after being run to approx 1 hour

Hello. That message appears when the video signal from the computer exceeds the monitor's ability to display it. If the sync is set too high(i.e. max sync on the monitor is 60 Hertz at that resolution), you will get that message. Check the video settings in control panel--("appearance and themes" in XP), go to the "advanced" tab and look at the refresh rate. Most computer video cards are able to far exceed a monitor's display ability. Don't exceed 60 Hertz--check the users guide for specs--the lower resolutions can have higher refresh rates(useful in games) Sometimes, a little lower video quality can yield a big performance difference in the display because the screen can update itself faster. (I use a radio control flight simulator pgm that is heavy on video ability).---Hope I was of assistance!---Rick

Cant get utube to publish my tenminmixes in full

Youtube imposes a maximum limit of 10 minutes duration for each video and 100 MB max file size. Since your vids are under the 10 min limit, you should look at the file size as the offending party. If it is over 100 MB, thats the problem. To reduce the file size you need to understand what a CODEC(COder-DECoder) is and how CODECs can be used to make video files smaller for uploading to Youtube. The file you want to up-load has two parts, audio and video, Each part uses a different type of codec to encode and save the "movie" you created with your video editing program. The most common and efficient video/audio codecs used on Youtube are MPEG-4 and MP3. If your video app is not set to encode audio to MP3, you are probably encoding the audio into a raw uncompressed WAV format (pronounced wave). Uncompressed WAV files are very large compared to the MP3 format. Setting the audio bitrate can be confusing. To keep it as simple as possible, I suggest setting the Bitrate to 128 kb/s STEREO if the video has music or 96 kb/s MONO if it is just people talking. Set the Sampling rate to 44100 Hz (or 44.1Khz) AAC is another Audio format. The same sampling and bitrates apply. The next thing you want to look at is the Video resolution and type of file you are saving/recording to. Since you are recording from a webcam, you may be using a propriatary codec that came with the camera. If this is the case, then you need to let me know what brand camera and software you are using. Most video cameras, including web-cams, use non-proprietary formats that can generate very large (but high resolution) files. For example: .avi & .mpg. You want to record at the highests resolution you can, BUT, you will save it later to a lower resolution compressed file. Many webcams can record at 800x600 and 640x480, but the file you will save for Youtube may be 320x240, 480x360 or 640x480. The higher the numbers the higher the resolution, but also the larger the file size. Also, the more motion there is in a video, the larger the file will be. So, if you have a lot of action and need to "squeeze" it in (compress) the video, use a lower output resolution (320x240). If it is an interview type video, where the background stays the same, you may get away with a higher resolution (640x480) if you want a sharper image. When recordings from the camera are saved as .avi, .mov or .mpg, you will have to change the output format in your video editing program to mp4 (H.264) format. You may also be able to set your webcam to record directly to the mp4 format, which would be ideal, if you do not plan on editing your video. Then you can simply record and upload. The bottom line. ------------------ When you are done editing your movie and are ready to save it. Find where you can set or change output options in the editing app. Set the audio and video bitrates and resolution to those best suited to your needs. Change the output type to MP4, aka H.264 (for video) and MP3 or AAC (for audio). Click save, wait a bit, upload your video to YT for the world to see and revel in the glory of being a producer. Cannot set resolution 1640x1050

Hi,
To answer your question in short: If your video card and monitor drivers are installed correctly and you are able to adjust the resolution to 1640x1050 in your settings then your card and monitor are able to handle that resolution.
Remember that at higher resolutions your display card performance might become very slow.]
This is due to your BIOS shared memory being only 64Mb.
To get better performance you will have to upgrade your display card to one with more memory. ie. 256Mb. or more.
Best of luck.

Graemevm

Synch problems on Philips machines can be caused by the video output setting.

Usually there are 3 options for video output:
  • PAL
  • NTSC
  • AUTO
PAL & NTSC force playback in that setting, regardless of DVD format, and sometimes cause a time delay in the conversion.

Try changing this option to AUTO. IF you have a modern TV, it should allow both PAL & NTSC playback.
