Only get a blank blue screen when I turn on PC. All seems dead!

Try booting into Safe Mode. You can do this by rebooting your computer. As soon as it turns on, you should see some kind of splash screen or logo like "Acer" or "Dell". When you see this, start tapping the F8 key about twice each second. Hopefully, you'll get the Boot menu for Windows. Select "Safe mode" from the list and see if it boots properly. If it does, then you have a software issue like a virus, bad drivers, or faulty software installed. If it won't boot into Safe Mode, you may have a compromised operating system or failing hard drive. Give that a try and see what happens.

Linux boots, take usr name and password, then screen goes blank

You could try pressing Alt+Ctrl F1 at the logon to get a TTY logon. If none of your apps are X-based, then you can use them that way otherwise you could try and use the TTY terminal to reinstall/repair X or KDE. Sorry I can't be more help, but hopefully this can steer you in the right direction.

Xp boots and hang up on blank screen

Insert the original Windows XP "System Restore" CD-ROM,
and tell your computer to "boot" from it.

Does it boot, and get to a screen that asks you "do you really want to ...", or does it stop at a "blank" screen?

If it "stops", you have a "hardware" problem.
If it "asks", then either:
* your disk-drive has failed, or is about to fail,
* your installed copy of Windows is messed-up, and it cannot complete the "boot" process.

Take your computer to a computer-store, for more trouble-shooting.

Desktop doesnt boot.

If you have a windows XP recovery CD, try running that at boot.

also, try pressing the f8 key to boot windows in safe mode.

it sounds like a corrupted OS install: if you can't recover, you may have to reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows.
