Sony Cybeshot DSCW80

Hello

My daughter has the above camera and it has recently started playing up. You siwtch it on the lens tries to focus and you are unable to take picture. The rear screen just sats Cybershot. The menu button does not work either. After a minute it says turn the power off and on again. We have tried a different memory card and battery. Plus also a post of a gentle pull and twist to the lens all to no avail. An ideas? The camera is about a year old

SOURCE: the lens does not stop popping in and out plus it says to turn off and on again

I followed the advice on a couple of other boards which suggests you actually give the camera a few hard whacks on a tile floor. That worked for some people. With me, after whacking didn't work I took a knife used it to pry up the edge of the lense while it was trying to open. A little of that worked for me.

You can't imagine the sense of accomplishment I felt when the thing finally started working again after all the banging and prying. It's a tough little bugger!

SOURCE: Sony Cybershot dsc-w110 won't turn on ?

OK you are probably going to think I am loony giving you this advise But No I am completely sane!

Get a can of compressed air OR acces to a compressor at your local garage Get them to fit the triggered air blower tool to it.

Blow around the lens in all the extension joins the firmly slap it in the palm of you hand with the side of the camera making contact with you palm. Do the procedure two or 3 times and inbetween the slaps turn it on to activate the lens mechanism. I have now fixed about 80 of these cameras with this method. I obtained the fix from Sony who charge $90 to do exactly the same. Keep at it as it will eventually work. One tip, make sure the battery is charged before you do this.

Camara restrarts

Usually a camera only shuts down, when one of its sensors detects a dangerous situation. somewhere a voltage to high, or somewhere it is overheating. Or the lens is not moving free. With some camera's you can force a shut down, by only pressing the lens a little, or just touching the lens while zooming or focusing. Don't try this, because it can damage the lens system. If nothing off this all happened to your camera, perhaps you should ask a service centre. But please check yourself, when you are focusing or zooming, that you don't touch the lens barrel.

How to stop camera from focusing during videos? Every time I make a video the camera keeps focusing making the screen blurry!

There are a number of tips on how to make the camera focus better:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/searchEntry.do?locale=LA_eng_US&usemicrosite=true&region=UMRE_UNITEDSTATES_2_5&sonyregion=US&searchString=focus&product=SG_DSCW80_5_16411&sonytemplate=1&sonymodel=DSCW80

Input 'focus' in the search term to get it.

It seems like you can change the shutter speed to a faster speed to focus better. Or, you can change it to manual focus. I think.

This should be int he manual.

Lens wont stay open

If the camera has recently been dropped you may have lens damage that is preventing it from powering up. If it hasn't been dropped your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full charge (assuming that you are using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

The camera's firmware will need to be updated. You can sometimes get lucky enough to find a free download on the web. Others have to send in their camera's to the manufacture and they will repair it for $50

Sony DCR-DVD403 camcorder - picture won't focus. E:61:10 error.

E61:10 is a lens error code. You have a bad lens unit, but sometimes they can be fixed. The focus and zoom motor worm drives on the zoom lens jam when they get dropped. If your really really carfull you can free them up and fix the lens. Thereis a plastic claw that rides along the worm drive shaft that can get jamed. I've fixed thousands of these but i'm a guru. It can be tricky.

Got sand in my sony cybeshot DSC-W55

It sounds as if the sand is jamming the lens/shutter mechanism.

I would be very cautious about using compressed air to try and solve the problem. You could well end up just blowing the sand further into the camera and causing more serious problems.

I would recommend taking it to a professional, but if you do want to dive-in yourself, I would do the following:

If possible, try and brush any grains of sand away.

Avoid using compressed air - Use a proper camera blower instead.

Avoid touching the sensor!
