Your graphics card on that should push that resolution so I would probably lean toward the tv. Try changing the aspect resolution or (zoom button) on the remote to change the way the screen is delivered. As long as the resolution on the laptop is a widescreen resolution and the same for the television. Make sure in your tv settings, that the aspect is set at 16:9.
Check your screen resolution. Since you've updated to the latest driver, make sure the resolution is set to the highest it can go. Also, make sure it is showing an LCD display that cooresponds to what you have.
Have you ran any spyware scans or antivirus scans? Check my (site) for this software. The Adaware 2007 is 2008 Link not 2007. Check the words files at the bottom of the page. I hope this helps. Spyware can do crazy things.
Watch out that you haven't switched off the screen by accident. One of the function key combinations toggles between the built-in screen and the VGA socket on the back or side panels to allow the use of either an external monitor or video projector. The key combination toggles three ways: 1) internal screen, 2) external VGA, or 3) both. On my Acer Travelmate 2200, the key combination is <Fn> + <F5>. Please try this first.
