Question about Toshiba 43H70 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Flickering and focusing in/out picture including some sound spikes and red LED light flashing

I have had this several years and had no problems until 3 years ago. It was the same problem or symptoms. I have had it fixed 3 times in 3 years, and it never stays fixed. The TV will revert back to the same symptoms and then stop and work perfectly only to do it again after a period of time. All the repairmen where certified or so I was told. The 1st repair was some color convergance chips blue/green/red. The 2nd was chips and capacitors by a different company. The 3rd(same company as the 2nd) was a week at the shop they checked the power regulator, but I don't think they replaced it. They couldn't fix it at the house, and tookit to the shop for a week, and said the tv would not repeat the symptoms. They gave it back, and it worked great, for a week then the same problems started again interminently. Does anyone know what the fix would be besides a brick and a new Tv? I really like the Tv better than whatsout now. Thanks, Jamie

Its a common trick by workmen a simple dodgy capaciter blows out they replace it with another dodgy one ask them for the parts they replace so you can check whatthey do....

No picture or sound with a red flashing power light. Have replaced the convergence IC's but no change (do not have the chirpint sound). Removed main power board & green LED does not light up

On that model the conv IC is usually not the solution. I believe its the blown capacitor problem with is an easy fix. Check the site for a repair kit.

Installed new lamp. When powered up blue solid light and yellow blinking light (15x) , tv would torn off and on several times trying to light lamp. Once that failed red blinking light and yellow solid...

Hi Genaro,

Blue led light lit solid and yellow led light flashes is an initial attempt of the set to re-light the lamp.Red led flashes and yellow led light solid means that the lamp won't light up that's why it only has sound without the picture.
Since you've replaced the lamp twice and still the symptoms persist, I suspected that the fault came from the ballast board and not on the lamp itself. If the ballast board gone to malfunction, there's no high voltage will produce to light up the lamp and will sensed by the processor and trigger the error code (Flashes/solid led light with color code).

To verify whether the ballast board is faulty or not, check if the lamp will lit by looking through the lamp door louvers at the rear of the cabinet upon turning on the set.
Please let me know what you will find to assist you further.

When turned on green light flashes and no picture

Check the Lamp if no picture, audio may be present. Screen is completely dark. Lamp LED flashes 2X every 5 seconds, Power LED flashes GREEN for 140 seconds then flashes RED.

Loose Connection for the Green Signal?

Well, first of all, isn't there a warranty on the repair?
It still could be a bad solder connection somewhere but I have seen what is called a G2 / Focus block go bad causing your symptoms.

Working around those tubes is not recommended unless you know what you're doing. You can really mess up the picture or worse, break a tube.

Sony rear projection screen is red then tv shuts off

Can be 1 of 2 things. 1st the red tube just needs the voltage to it turned down. In the front of TV (you have to remove the lower front half of TV to access it) is a plastic square with 6 knobs. The from left to right top knobs control focus for blue, green red. The bottom knobs control voltage to each tube in same order (so lower right knob for red) turn SLOWLY to left to reduce voltage until excessive red and lines go away. If you over turn left or right set will turn off. If that does not fix it or if lines reappear then option 2 is that red picture tube is failing outright and needs replacement.

Good Day, Butchilee,
Sounds like you have patience, hope your TV has some trace left. Hit recommends that you replace the originals with
STK-392-150's and the resistors. Replace said items with care then back down on the screen/ focus controls and gradually bring the screens up until you have pic, adjust focus. Go into customer menu and adjust color down, set brightness to 50%, contrast to 100%. Then go back and adjust the screens for proper, black/white, tracking. AND It's best to double check the soldering connections.
Good Luck, Big Irish.
