Question about HP Photosmart C4280 Aio Printer

Printer works but will not scan.

I have been unable to complete the driver downloads using the disc which came with the printer bu have got it working using the windows wizard facility. everything now works except the scanner which comes up with a message saying "scan error".
Any ideas?

Here's my GEEK-steer ...

First, try a quick "Hot Plug":

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
  2. Wait 10 sec's.
  3. Reconnect the USB cable.
  4. Test scan again.
No joy? Oh well, it was a long shot anyway. In that case, let's continue the journey ...

  1. You have previously attempted to install the printer using the HP disk that came with it, but it was never COMPLETED successfully.
  2. It was then subsequently installed using only the resident Windows generic drivers ("WINDOWS WIZARD FACILITY"/Device Manager).
If that is essentially accurate, then there is both your problem AND YOUR SOLUTION. Printers can be the most persnickety of all devices to install ... they want what they want, and that's just the way it's gonna be! Although Windows commendably satisfied your printer with satisfactory enough drivers to get it working, it obviously didn't meet the mark well enough to facilitate scanning.

As a cardinal rule, I employ the dreaded (and much-too-often advised) "uninstall/reinstall" as an absolute final resort. In this case though, that is the most advisable thing for you to do. Most devices (and printers especially) need to be installed using the latest and best (usually from its manufacturer) drivers available.
Therefore ...

UNINSTALL ALL ASSOCAITED SOFTWARE.


  1. Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
  2. Select the HP all-in-one software entry in the list of installed programs.
  3. Click Remove.
  4. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
  5. Restart (reboot) your PC.
REINSTALL.

The scan on screen dialog box is corrupted. The buttons to the right to save the scanned document are not labelled and do not work. Unable to save a scan.


If you are in the US.
Go to www.usa.canon.com and click service and support.
Download drivers from there.
First un-install the previous scanner software.
There may be a delete driver file you can use.

How do I fix this: Printing works but suddenly Scan function doesn't work?

Hello,

Try installing it in safe mode.

To go to safe mode, do the following:

Restart and tap F8. Use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode with networking and hit enter. Install the driver from there and follow the on-screen instructions.

If no go, check the device manager of any question mark. There might be some outdated drivers that cause this problem. You can use RadarSync (free version) to scan your computer for outdated drivers.

After fixing all driver related issues, try installing the printer again.

Please download and install the scan drivers on your computer from support.lexmark.com website. Make sure to properly filter the operating system and then click on the downloads tab, you may select the link under drivers "Complete drivers and software for setting up, configuring, and using your device" when you install you may customize and select the local scan drivers.

Solved! I now can scan wirelessly throughout my network. I downloaded the drivers for a friends newer HP all-in-one scanner and I can scan. Look for the driver for the 309a series of printers and install it. Complete the install and set up your existing printer. You can now scan, print, fax wirelessly. It includes updated HP apps for these functions that work with OS 10.5. I didn't upgrade to the HP 1.1 drivers through Apple. The file name is: PS_AIO_05_C309a_Net_Full_Mac_WW_102.dmg

Hi Ellen, not sure if your problem is that you can't download ar that you don't know where to find the software.

The Full Driver & Software Package can be downloaded from the Brother website (63Mb).

UNABLE TO SCAN DOCUMENTS TO MYH COMPUTER


Try uninstalling and reinstalling your scanner with a clean install.

Do yo have the original disc? if not you can go to this site for a download of your scanner driver.

Here is how to do a clean download and install:

If you have the disc or when you have located the correct driver for your machine, please do a clean download and install as follows:

Uninstall the previous software.
Turn off the machine and unplug it
Turn off all your running programs including your virus control
(look in the lower right corner and click on each little icon there and turn off everything you can)

Insert your disc for a new install
>>>If you don't have the disc-Now download the driver and SAVE it to your desktop
Click on it to install and follow the directions carefully.<<<<< When installation is finished, if it has not told you to reconnect your printer, do so now.
Restart your computer.
