Do NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics in notebooks have a history of problems- I heard this brand has recalls or gives problems. Has this been rectified?

Here's my GEEK-steer ...

I'm sincerely curious where you heard that. Your post got my attention because I just installed that exact device in a client's PC very recently, so I was compelled to check it out myself. However, after a bit of research, my assessment is: Me thinks the basis of such accusations is based more in jealousy and brand loyalty than in fact. Why?

INDICATOR ONE:

In February 2008, the Geforce 9600 GT was released. That's almost a year out in the wild. Plenty enough time for any/all significant problems to aggregate in the web tech-forum world. Yet I don't see any noteworthy level of problem reports. In fact, the highest ranked Google item http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t79391.html associated with that device (dated Oct 12 2008) has a user encountering VERY GENERIC ERRORS, yet not one other user appears to have same problem, and his post is hitherto un-answered. Not exactly the flurry of activity you'd expect to see with a device with a "history of problems".

INDICATOR TWO:

Then I read this interesting reference http://www.product-reviews.net/2008/10/15/nvidia-geforce-9600m-gt-specs/ and it became clearer (if not conclusive):

[QUOTE] We learned yesterday that the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics will be used in the new Apple MacBook. So how come Apple decided to DO AWAY WITH INTEL AND CHOOSE NVIDA INSTEAD (my emphasis). There are a number of reasons for this, but the main reason is the performance. [END QUOTE]

That factiod represents a significant business change involving equally significant financial interests, egos, and brand-loyalists. A word to the wise is sufficient.

For what it's worth, I would have no problem buying, using, installing, or recommending this particular device. Hope this helps. Please post back and let me know what you think (especially if you have something I need to know that I'm unaware of).

Hello here is the SONY homepage:

http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/359171/product/vpccw16fa

The newest nvidia driver, can be downloaded here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-314.07-whql-driver.html

Or use Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products, by installing a small bit of software.

My advice is to uninstall ALL nvidia software, before you install the new.

Hope this will help you

Graphics card upgrade on Acer Extensa 5230E-901G16Mn laptop

Unfortunately, laptops are generally locked down in terms of graphics cards. The GPU is integrated into the laptop mainboard due to space constraints.

Your only option if tied down to a laptop for any reason would be to purchase a more recent laptop with a specific graphics card in it.

Any discrete (NVIDIA or ATI) graphics card that was manufactured after 2008 should be sufficient to run most games.

If you're looking to play games on more intense graphic settings, your best bet would be to look for laptops with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M/240M or better, or the ATI Mobility Radeon 4600/5400 or better. Either brand with at least 512 MB of video RAM will work well.

GeForce 8600 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card doesn't work

contact the shop / place you purchased it from and they should be able to give you info of where to send it and what to do - they should have a section on there website where you can go through the return process and you will most likely need to get an RMA number to authorise the return / replacement.

Vga driver

You can download the Windows XP driver for the GeForce 9200M GS from this link.

== ALWAYS virus scan any file downloaded from the Internet BEFORE using it. ==

I hope this helps. If it does, please rate the solution. My goal is FixYa or Helpful, never TFT for IA.

S-video not working

S-Video is, technically speaking, the Chroma and the Luma signals. I have heard many complains about the GeForce 8600gt Video card.Well coming to the point... First of all check if the driver has the plugin or the codec required, better re-install the driver (latest) which u can get from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us. If the driver is OK, then there might be something to do with the connecting/interfacing cables. If u have a multimeter, u can check if the interfacing cable is OK or not by checking the resistance of the cable (of course, resistance has nothing to do with the subject, but just to show very low resistance). Most of the problems occur due to cables only.
