Question about Maytag MTB1504A Top Freezer Refrigerator
I have a maytag performa fridge that has the freezer on the top. about a week ago we heard a hissing noise, kinda like water being dropped onto something really hot, since that happened our freezer is not staying cold. the temp is cranked all the way up yet my popcicles are squishy instead of frozen solid... please help
Sounds like you heard the heating element melting ice as its supposed to do so your frost free feature / defrost is working. After that the melted water has to drain down the tube, in the pan underneath, to be dried by the fan. Possibly there is still ice blockage blocking that drain hole. Sucks (unplug and let thaw out for 48 hours...move food naturally) ...or...take apart the back panel / wall in freezer...see...heat gun / hair dryer. Hot water down that drain also till you see it run smoothly down into the pan.

Get in a technician to check gas pressure as the noise may have been gas escaping

You should try to clean the coils under the fridge . Thats a simple thing to try .If your fridge /freezer cant remove the heat it wont cool ,also please make sure your doors are closing tight. We can start on all the free things you can try first..

if your fridge has 2 set of dials one numbers and the other letters than you need to adjust the dial that has letters on it. If the fan in your freezer is not blowing, then it won't force the cold air from the freezer to the fridge. Make sure fan blows then adjust the letter knob.

The drian hole has become stopped up and ice has accumulated in the the drian hole. You will need to unplug the fridge and remove the cover on the back (located at the bottom, 6 screws). On the freezer side there is a drian hole with a rubber 90 and a clear line that runs to the drain pan. Remove line and unstop. Don't not put the line back on yet.
Now for the fun part, remove the basket and the two bottom shelves from the freezer. Half way up the back there are 2 screws that need to be removed. After removing screws pull up on the top cover to so you can remove the bottom cover. The bottom cover maybe froze to the coils and to the inside drain pan. Break the ice with a butter knife, and remove cover ( do not hit the coils). Now you need to break the ice that is froze to the the pan and under it. Once you have remove all the ice you will see the drain hole, use a small pointed object to break ice that is in drain hole. Now you can put the drain line back on and make sure that the other end is in the drain pan under the fridge. Now reassemble the fridge and plug it back up.
It took me about 20 minutes to do this.
Hope this helps.
