Question about Sony Handycam DCR-VX2000E Mini DV Digital Camcorder
when i try to capture video with my sony dcr-vx2000e onto my brand new imac i get the following problem:
the mac acknowledges the exact model of the camera and sees it online, i can push ''play'' from the capture window (finalcut. premiere and imovie...i tried all of them) but i just get either a blue screen or a black screen depending on the program. i can never see or hear what's on the miniDV.
also, if i push ''play'' from the capture window, the capture window freezes and only goes back to normal once i manually push ''stop'' on the camera.
could this be a problem with video drivers? i've never seen anything like this to be honest, especially with something as simple as a firewire connected camcorder for capturing miniDV footage.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can only view hd footage on hd devices. so if you recorded hd footage onto a tape, you will not be able to view it on a standard def camera, ie the dvx100b. The footage should not be harmed. Now if you are trying to view via p2 card over the firewire, whole new scenario.

Yes, I use Mod to iMovie Converter, it can import your video files to imovie hd, imovie 07, imovie 08, it's easy and safe.

Hard to say without seeing it and more details of the video coding of the files you recorded but I think you shot it interlaced and you are trying to edit/view progressive, or the field dominance is wrong.
Have a look here, this should sort it either way
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Tips for a great answer:
clean the inside of the tape mechanism with isopropyl alcohol, its great stuff, heads and running bars - all metal parts. Clean off residue before putting a tape in again. and use a new tape for tests if poss
Change brands of tapes. If persists, it's most likely time for new video heads.
