Follow the actuating rod from the bottom of the brake pedal to the master cylinder. The switch is threaded into the inboard side of the master cylinder and is a pressure switch. If you disconnect the 2 wires and short them together, the brake light should turn on when the ignition switch is on. If it doesn't the problem is in the rear end wiring, not the switch. A couple hints if you replace the switch: Put some pipe dope on the new one and have it ready to go. Unscrew the old one and quickly apply the new one before all the brake fluid escapes. That way you won't need to bleed the brake. Also, see if they have an Accell brand switch. This one of the few aftermarket products that is better than original. Cheaper, too.

Why wont the brake lights not work on my 1993 fatboy

Check the wiring under the rear fender for damage. Check the bulb by replacement. Check for 12 volts at the rear brake light switch. Check for blown fuses.

Why wont my brake lights not work

Check the wiring underneath the rear fender for damage especially if you are running a wider than stock rear tyre. The rear tyre comes in contact with the loom and wears through it. Also check for 12 volts at the rear brake light switch. I will assume that you have checked the bulb by replacement and also checked all fuses.

1994 fatboy brake light staying on

Hi Anonymous, your front brake lite switch button is probably not getting pushed back into the off position. Remove your right handelbar switch housing and push the plastic button in and out with your finger to see if the light goes off and on. If not disconnect the wires to your rear brake lite switch and check the front switch button again. If the button works then reinstall the switch housing and push it towards the master cylinder hard and hold it with one hand and retighten the screws with the other. If you hook up rear brake lite switch wires and the brake lite comes on replace the switch. Tail light and foot pedal brake light does not work but hand lever brake light works.

Probably a bulb/ rear brake switch combination. If your front brake switch is working, then half of the bulb is working. No taillight issue, probably a bulb. No rear brake light, probably the rear brake switch. Located on the lower right rear of the frame, behind the exhaust. Check for power on the orange/white wire at switch. If you have that then check for power on the other terminal of the switch while pushing on the pedal. The rear brake switch is hydraulically operated so you must have adequate pressure to activate it.

Brake light quit working on my 97 R 1100 RT. Fuse is good and neither front brake or rear brake action will allow the rear brake lights to come on. Does the brake light route through the flasher relay?...

I thought the brake light has its own feed from the battery as the brake light works with or without ignition on mine. Maybe a blown fuse or poor earth. Check for 12 volts on the switches.

97 Altima dashboard brake light stays on

Check your brake fluid level in the engine compartment. Its located on the rear RH side of the engine compartment, its a white/clear resevoir connecting to a large black circular object. If the fluid is low, fill to proper level, also I would recommend having your brake system checked as there may be a leak. If the fluid is fine and at the proper level, you may have a damaged/broken brake fluid level sensor or damaged/broken Emergency brake switch. Hopefully this helps....please rate thanks!!
