If it is a CRT (the big one that looks like a TV set) don't do it. You could get zapped with a whole bunch of electrical voltage. I don't know if LCD monitors do this or not.

Bet you a cup of coffee the power supply has gone south. Common repair. Get another power supply and install in place of old one.

Tower powers on but my monitor, keyboard and mouse don't work


Your system is failing the POST, I think. You'll need to troubleshoot it by opening the case and unplugging everything but the CPU and memory and video. Now power it on. If there still is a problem, try removing one of the sticks of memory.
Once you isolate the problem, you can replace the part that has gone bad.

Hi! My Hp Pavillion a1710n desktop emits a series of never ending beeps every time I turn it on, and nothing appears on the monitor. I checked and the monitor is plugged in. I dont know what's going on.


The problem with RAM or DISplay card(It can be Moisture problem) or Processor Fan is not working properly. Open the CPU case, locate RAM, remove the ram by opening the both side clips. and put the RAM back as it is. If you have Graphics card on your CPU then remove the Graphics Card also and put it back as it is. Start the PC with opened case to check Processor Fan is Rotating or not. If Fan is not working properly then you have to replace the Processor FAN. Fan ok but same problem persists. you have to replace RAM with new one. as well as Graphics (Display) card.

Sony vaio desktop all in one back light not working


To fix your problem please follow the below given steps
Step1
Power on your computer and wait until there should be an image displaying on your LCD monitor. Look directly into the monitor from a distance of about 1 inch way. Cup your hands around your face to block out the light in the room and get a clearer view of the LCD screen. Check to see if there is a faint light visible in the screen, which will indicate that the cold cathode backlight has gone out, or no image at all, which will indicate a different problem.

Step 2 Check the manual that came with your desktopmag-glass_10x10.gif LCD monitor or navigate to the manufacturer's website and find the model of cold cathode bulb that the monitor uses as a backlight. Purchase a corresponding replacement bulb

Step3 Power off your computer and then remove the monitor cable from the port on the back of the computer case. Disconnect the monitor stand from the monitor either by pulling out the plastic latches or by removing the screws holding it to the monitor's casing.

Step4 Lay the monitor face down onto a stable work surface such as a desk or table. Take out the screws along the edges of the monitor's casing and set them aside. Lift the back side of the monitor case off of the monitor and set it aside. Check to see if your model of LCD monitor has the back light directly exposed on the lower end of the monitor or if it is hidden behind another plastic or metal piece.

Step5
Remove the screws holding the plastic or metal piece over the bulb if there is one present and set the piece aside. Check to see if your model of monitor keeps the bulb in a plastic casing or if it is soldered directly to the metal. Use a soldering tool to remove the solder or instead use a rotary cutting tool to cut into the clear plastic casing around the bulb if it is inside a case.

Step6
Slide the new bulb into the open spot on the monitor and either solder it in place or use a piece of tape to cover over the opening you made on the plastic casing with the rotary cutting tool. Place the metal or plastic cover back on if there was one and reattach the screws. Set the casing back onto the monitor and place the screws back in.

Step7 Put the stand back on the monitor and then reconnect it to your desktop computer. Power the computer on and wait for an image to appear on the screen to make sure the back light bulb was installed correctly.

    Turn off power at computer. Unplug computer. Take case off and check video card to see if it is lose. REMEMBER TO GROUND YOURSELF WHEN OPENING CASE! VERY IMPORTANT. AND PULL OUT ELECTRIC PLUG!

    HP 1740 popup of OSD Lockout


    Dont take apart the monitor!?!?! Hold the Menu button for about 15 seconds, the manual said 10 but i found by holding menu for 15 seconds it removes the OSD lockout.

    HP monitor blacking out


    What was the last thing you were able to do with it? Have you made any changes to the monitor's or your computer's settings and configuration before the problem came?

    Firstly, assess whether the problem lies with the monitor or you pc. It's simple actually. Plug the monitor into another PC, or a DVD player or any other device that would accept the data connection to you PC. If the monitor works on other systems, then the problem lies with your PC. If this is the case, post here again if you need help to solve this.

    If the monitor doesn't work, then the case is most probably that the internal chipset of the monitor itself has been damaged or isn't working anymore. The usual causes for this are moisture getting in the monitor, old age of the device, dropping/bumping/breaking/etc of the monitor. Best to have it sent to your dealer or the nearest qualified service center.
