Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera
My daughter has the above camera and it has recently started playing up. You siwtch it on the lens tries to focus and you are unable to take picture. The rear screen just sats Cybershot. The menu button does not work either. After a minute it says turn the power off and on again. We have tried a different memory card and battery. Plus also your post of a gentle pull and twist all to no avail. An ideas? The camera is about a year old

The camera is probably is "Burst" mode where you hit the picture button and it contineously takes the picture. Hit menu and look to see if you have it set to burst mode if so take it off and it will work..I just found the answer on here :)

Please read carefully below procedure how to remove "Barrier Block" (what you call Lens Cover)..
Turn camera power ON so Lens will extend.
Take out battery so lens will remain extended.
First silver ring needs to be removed with help of tweezers as shown in below image..
Now you will see 2 screws at front of lens, unscrew to remove barrier block (lens cover) as shown in below image..
You need to have new barrier block with following part number..
A-1205-001-A BARRIER BLOCK ASSY
Subject part is available in Part Store
Install new barrier block as shown following image..
Insert battery and power up camera to check does barrier block works fine.
Need further info, let me know.

I jeremy- i was having the exact same problem today. I phoned Sony repair, who then had me take out the battery and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds..reinsert the battery and power up. Didn't fix it. I came home and read some posts on here. I ended up trying the gently twist the lens as it was zooming in and out..I twisted a little and pulled a little. About the third time, it worked. (I also held the power button down with the battery in, just to try..maybe that helped, too). Sony wants flat fee of $91 to fix..is that what they told you?
