Yes it actually is a common issue with vista, i had a sony vaio with 3gb ram vista was amazing for first 3 months, but after that it went downhill, game load times started to double, you need to download a free spyware/temp file removal tool, i suggest adaware it works fairly well and will probably give u a marginal increase in performance, also check into getting virus protection if you dont already have it, AVG has a free one which i link you to here at the bottom

also be sure to do a disk cleanup you can get to that via start/programs/accessories/System Tools/disk cleanup

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Is 1 gig of ram enough memory to support vista to run?

Hey there you want to use vista?? lol good luck. You need a min of 2 gigs ram to run vista but should ideally have 4 gigs for good operation. vista is a memory hog. You can change the configuration to use less but still need at least 2 gigs

the PC is most likely bloated with lots of useless software, viruses, malware etc, but upgrading ram will give the biggest increase in performance, I would reccoment atleast 1 GB for windows XP systems and 2 GB for windows vista systems.

Slow laptop dv 9208 w vista

If you're having Vista, you will need 1gb RAM minimum. Vista is resource intensive, concentrated more on graphics, and a lot of Hardware compatibility issues. Windows XP is fine and better as of now which runs great with 1GB of ram and a pretty processor of 2.0 ghz ...If you think of speeding up ur lappy better go for XP .increasing ur RAM will increase the number of apps that you can run productively at a time.

Memory Upgrade

Increasing the amount of RAM will always help your laptop's performance. However, in this case, I would try going to HP's web site and updating the video drivers or try a different program to play DVD's. 958 should be more than enough RAM to run DVD's smoothly. You can find DVD software at filehippo.com for free.
As for RAM instalation:
I would only let Bestbuy install them if it's free. Installing memory chips is simple, they're located under a panel on the bottom of the machine. (Be sure to power down first) Do it yourself and use the money you save on the outrageous gas prices.
