My dvd player won't turn on. It was saying protected, push power. When I tried to push power nothing would happen. Now it won't even come up saying protected. What should I do?

Sound like to me you got a problem with the capcitor inside the unit, if its under warrenty it will need to be serviced. If its not I ould be checking capcitors inside to make sure there not bulging leaking or otherwisen ot wroking correctly.
THE ASTERICS ARE THE CODE NUMBERS HIDDEN SO WHEN PUT IN (LIKE A PASSWORD THEY TURN TO ASTERICS) TRY RESETING THE UNIT OR PULL THE PLUG OVERNIGHT AND TRY THE NEXT SAY
I was moving around my large woofer speaker last night and then all of a sudden the unit went into protection mode. I tried all the various solutions posted on here and nothing worked. Then I went back to my speaker connections on the woofer and unplugged them and plugged them in again and it seems to be ok now. Very annoying problem. Can I suggest unplugging all the speaker cables and replugging them back in. Also another solution may have been holding down the power button when powering up the unit. Give all the above a try.
There should be a tiny hole that you can get a paper clip through on your DVD this hole leads to a manual release mechanism that should open the DVD drawer.
I hope this helps
My daughters had the same problem, try replacing C411 (I think that was the number on the board), its a 10V 1000uf capacitor in what appears to be the 5V power supply section toward the right rear of the main board, that fixed it. On hers the capacitor was swelled up on the end. I checked it out of the circuit and the DVM I used only indicated it had about 500uf capacity.
