Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

TV will not power on

My TV no longer has a power button that can manually be pressed (button simply fell off, unsure of the cause of that), and I've had to use the remote to power it on and off for the past year.
Three weeks ago the remote became increasingly unresponsive and took upwards of 100 presses to power up the TV. I assumed this was a problem with the IR sensor on the TV and took it in for repairs.
Repairs cost me $170 and I got the TV back two days ago. They didn't replace the power button on the TV, but it seemed like the remote was once again working. That is, until this morning, when it suddenly is again completely unresponsive.
Power supply looks alright, fuses are all intact. I had a convergence issue, where I had to keep readjusting every few times I turned the TV on, but I'm assuming this is unrelated. Really I want to know what the problem could be. As far as I know, the IR sensor has been replaced. As I said before, my TV was working for two days after repairs and now is again unresponsive. I don't believe it's the remote, as I've tried three different ones (one that came with the TV and two universals which were programmed to it) and I keep getting the same results. The light won't power on or anything. It's as if the set is completely dead.

How do I simply turn on the t.v woth the remote?

First- make sure the remote has good batteries and the batteries are in the correct orientation- positive "+" to positive, negative "-" to negative. It may be your remote batteries are used up. You won't believe how many times I find this during my Handyman visits to customers.

Assuming your remote is already coded for your particular TV all you need to do is:
Press the "power" or "on" button of the remote. If you don't have a remote "power/on" button then simply press the "TV" button on the remote. Your TV should now be on now.

Note: most remotes that come with the TV are already coded for it so you shouldn't have to enter a 3 or 4 number code particular to that brand of TV. You may have a "Universal Remote" which is a generic remote that works with many TV brands so they need to be coded to communicate to a certain model. Read the TV Installation/Owners Manual to operate the remote.

Thomas Faust,

Ron,

I am not sure which codes were used, but you can check out http://www.mydish.com/support/apps/remotecodes.aspx to view our entire list available. I am unsure if the AUX mode will work with the OTA converter. I have listed the steps below to do a power scan which lets it go through all available codes. If you have a model 20/21.0 remote, you can also utilize the learning function on the remote.

With the OTA Converter on, press and hold the AUX mode button (about six seconds) on the top of the remote until all mode buttons light up, then release. Press 2, then press STAR (*)

Press the Up arrow button once per second while pointing the remote at the converter. If the code for it comes up, the equipment power off.

When it does, press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light will flash three times. To verify the code works try several different functions for that equipment.

Remote doesn't control on/off,volume or channels

Remote won't workThe most common reasons the remote won't work is that the batteries are dead or it hasn't been programmed properly. It's often easy to fix. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you have a clear path between the remote and the infrared eye on your equipment. Clear any dust or debris that may be covering the eye.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Press the SAT mode button at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Check the batteries. When you press a mode button, does it light up? If not, you may be out of juice. Check to make sure they are in the right way, with the metal ends making good connections with the metal in the remote. If they're in correctly and you still don't get power, try replacing them. They may be dead.Learn about batteries

Check to make sure the remote is programmed properly, which basically means you reprogram it to work with your receiver, TV and any other components. Start with the receiver and work your way through programming each component that isn't working. We tell you how to program remotes in our guide to remotes.Learn about remotes

Still no go? You may have an internal problem with the remote. You'll have to talk to a Shaw Direct customer service representative. Call 1.888.554.7827.Be prepared to tell us:What components you have. All of the steps you've been through to try and solve the problem yourself. Can't change channels on receiverThis is almost always caused by a programming problem with the remote. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you are in SAT mode. The receiver will only change channels when the remote is in the correct mode.Look for a timer. If you have a timer set, the receiver won't let you change channels. This ensures you don't miss recording a program with an external device. If a timer is set and you want to watch another channel, simply turn off the receiver and turn it back on.Learn about timers

Make sure the problem is with the remote and not the receiver. Try the buttons on the front of the receiver. Try to change channels. If your model doesn't have channel buttons, try to turn the machine off. If you can't change channels or power off, the problem is with the receiver. Try unplugging it for two minutes and plugging it in again.

If you can change the channels or power off, the problem is with the remote. Press any mode button on the remote. It should light up. If not, you probably have low batteries. They should be replaced.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Click on any of the mode buttons at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Try re-programming the remote to talk to your receiver.Find the manual for your remote control

Check to see if your Shaw Direct Receiver is using the same remote control address as your remote control. If you are using the DSR 319, HDDSR 505, or HDPVR 530 receiver press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate to 6 - System Setup and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 4 - System Setup. Then 3 - Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Remote control Address. If you are using a legacy receiver such as the DSR 315, DSR 405, or any other receiver with front panel buttons, press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate OPTIONS and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 6 - Change System Settings. Then 3 - Change Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Set Remote Control Address.Follow the on-screen instruction to reset the remote control address on your receiver and remote control.Check the back of your remote, if you own the IRC/URC 550 or RT-U50 remote controls you will need to enter the remote control address differently from what is displayed on screen. To program these remotes, hold the ENTER and MUTE button on your remote at the same time until the mode buttons at the top start to illuminate then enter the last three digits of the number displayed in "Current Address" column on the screen, then press the MUTE button to lock in the code. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0002, you would hold ENTER + MUTE until the mode button illuminated and then enter 0 0 2, followed by ENTER on your remote control. If you own the IRC 551 or URC 551 remote control you can follow the instruction depicted on the screen, but you must substitute the follows numbers in place those specified: 00869 for 0000, 01870 for 0001, 01871 for 0002, 01872 for 0003, 01873 for 0004, 01874 for 0005, 01875 for 0006, 01876 for 0008. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0003, you would hold the SAT button until it flashes, press 01872, then ENTER, to lock in the new code.Still no go? You can prgramme with
toshiba remote control with Toshiba TV, eventhough you haven't its manual or codes. Proceedings are :

1. Make sure there are working batteries in the Toshiba remote control.

The tv doesn't react when pressing the power button. What can I do to fix this?

Things You'll Need:
  • Batteries
    • 1 Press the "TV" button and then press the "Power" button on the remote. If the TV turns on, your remote was just switched off of TV mode.
    • 2 Reprogram your remote to your TV. Universal remote controls can be accidentally unprogrammed by sitting on the wrong combination of buttons or having the batteries disconnect from the inner connections.
    • 3 Unplug the TV from the electrical outlet for a few minutes and plug it back in. This will reset the TV in case a power surge caused the TV to become "confused."
    • 4 Replace the batteries with new ones. Do not use old batteries from a different device in your house because if the batteries do not work, you won't be able to determine anything because those batteries may not have enough juice to power the remote. Keep in mind that different devices have different needs, so the batteries may have had enough power for something else to work but not enough for your remote.
    • 5 Check the batteries to see if they are inserted in the right direction. It's possible that someone dropped the remote, the batteries fell out and then were inserted incorrectly.
    • 6 Press the "Power" button on the TV set to determine that the TV is not dead. A dead TV will not turn on from a remote.
    • 7 Program the remote to another TV. If the second TV works from the remote, the problem is with your TV's remote signal receiver

The Zenith Digital TV Converter DTT900 needs reprogramming

1) While pressing & holding down the TV POWER button, press CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWN repeatedly until your TV is turned on or off. 2) Release the TV POWER button when your TV is turned on or off. *Each press of the channel button sends a manufacturer code (1-45) to your TV, one after the other. Note: You may have to do this every time you change or remove the battery, as the remote will reset itself to the default code.

Cannot program dish remote to operate tv

Please follow the steps below to program your remote control to equipment other then your DISH receiver:
Note: If you start this procedure and at any time and do not press a button within 20 seconds, the remote will end the procedure automatically. Simply start over again. Use the TV button for your TV, the VCR button for your VCR or DVD player. These Mode buttons are located at the top of your remote control.
1. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate, then release.
2. Press the numbers 5-0-0 on the remote control.
3. Press the Pound (#) button on the remote.
4. Press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate, then release.
5. Press and release the Power button on the remote control.
6. Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
7. Press the Pound (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
8. To verify the code works try several different functions for that equipment.
We cannot guarantee our remotes will work all other devices. If this does not correct the issue, unfortunately our remote will not work for that device. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Masterplug 4 in 1 remote control

There is no bush listing in the manual

You can perform a manual search.
Press and hold TV,SAT,DVD or VCR until the centre light blinks red.
While it is blinking press 0000
The flashing will speed up.
Press the power button repeatedly - it will cycle through all codes.
When your device turns off (powers off) press the okay button.
It should now power on and off correctly.
Check the other buttons to see if everything works.
If it does not start the process again - it will hit another code which will also power down the device - takes a long time but should work - manual states it may take 20 mins - practise says longer
