Re: gr-d290

It is possible to transfer video via usb however it requires a video capture program windows movie maker works apparently and the cyberlink software that comes with the camera will do it too. To do it stick the usb cable in and turn the slider switch to play with the lcd screen open. Then go into your video capture software and navigate thru to capture from video device. If you cannot capture with sound then you need the appropriate audio driver. The cyberlink program works best for video capture via usb as it already has the audio codecs.

Hi, You can only transfer still images (photos) with a USB cable. For video, you need a firewire card and cable. That's the way it works.

Welcome to FixYa!

Copying from TAPE to PC requires 4 things. The video cam where the TAPE will be played, a FIREWIRE compatible cable, a FIREWIRE card installed on your computer and a SOFTWARE that supports a firewire device that would record the video.

Unlike Digital Videos that you can just copy and paste the video file from the video cam to the computer, the tape to pc transfer is more of recording the video in from the video cam by playing it in real time while the computer is recording it.

This is a sample of a FIREWIRE card that is installed inside a computer.
An external USB version of this is also available.

Windows MOVIE MAKER is an example of a software that can be used to record the videos. It supports FIREWIRE devices.

Here's a sample video.

Transferring camcoder to computer form

Had same problem...although manual states you can transfer via USB, it doesn't work and won't no matter how many drivers you find. What does work is a Firewire cables. You have three options but I only have tried and proven one. Options:

1. 4-Pin to 4-Pin Firewire transfer cable. The camera has a Firewire port directly below the AC Power adaptor port. This worked fine pulling the video to my PC using Windows Media Transfer. No drivers least for Vista. As soon as I plugged in the camera, a window opened asking what actions I wanted to take. Only my HP Laptop equipped with 4-Pin Firewire.

2. 4-Pin (Camera) to 6-Pin Firewire (PC). My Laptop or Desktop not equipped.

3. 4-Pin Firewire (Camera) to USB (PC). Might work but since I couldn't pull data through Camera USB, didn't want to invest in this cable configuration.

Solution in future is buy a bunch of SD Media cards (Not SD-HC) and stop using tape. Transfer direct to PC from SD Card.

JVC gr-270 drivers

Try look up JVC miniDV USB. There are many drivers, you just need to try until you get one that works. USB will only transport over still pics, you need firewire for video transfer.

Hi Heidi.

Be sure your camera is on when you have connected it to your PC. Then you have to put it in Play mode and rewind the tape if it's a USB cable you connect with. Start Windows Movie Maker and test.

Hi, Since videos are taped in DV format, you need a firewire card (IEEE-1394) and cable. These are cheap. May be your PC already has a firewire card. Just check. Windows XP recognises automatically the camcorder. Moreover, its integrated video capture/editing module, Windows Movie Maker, is very userfriendly. USB connection is only good for downloading still images (photos) to your PC. For more information, go to good luck

JVC GR-D270U- transfering pics from tape to computer

if you are using a desktop, you require a an addon card called IEEE 1394 firewire card, which you have to install it on your motherboard's PCI slot, then using the firewire cable which you get along with the card should be connected to the card and DV port of the camera, then using the MOVIE MAKER software of windows XP, you can download the video.
