Cannot get TV to make connection and play a DVD

New Toshiba TV June 08; combo Toshiba DVD/VCR cassette recorder is, at the most, 4 years old (and has always worked well). Played a series of movies a month or two ago - everything worked fine.

However, I can not get the CD to play on the TV????????

Hello, it seems your new tv will not work as a standalone audio amp or just for audio amplification. with no video signal it will seem to the tv video processor as a insuficient video source this will cuase no detection of video not allowing the selected source input to operate for sound only. if it is a dvd music video or movie it does becuase the tv is sensing incoming video signal and allows the selected input circut to operate.
you may want to connect your dvd player audio outs to your audio amp or surround sound processor first if you want to play cd,s with no video or use the dvd/cd player with your sound system when playing back music cd's.

hope this helps

First, check all connections carefully while consulting the manual. This is usually the solution. Then run the CD on your computer to make sure it is OK. If so, disconnect the cable from the DVD port and replace it with the CD player. If this works, then you need to install an A/B switch so that each device can be used separately.

If the Toshiba is not reading some CDs or DVDs, it can have a dirty lens problem.

Try using a len cleaner , like the ones here.

Check also all connections , and ensure that TV input is on the right channel.

If this does not work call the number listed on the owner manual to get assistance, the unit should be under factory warranty.
    Try cleaning the lens first.

Make sure the device is plugged into the household power supply and is switched on if no indicator lights are illuminated on the control panel. Watch for any power-saving technology that can shut the recorder down when it's not being used. Try the "Power" button again.
    • 2
Verify that the media you are using is compatible with the device. Most combos record to DVD-RAM/-R/-RW/+R/+RW Discs on the disc side. VHS cassettes can have erasure tabs, so check that the tab is still there if you can't record to the cassette. Watch out for copy-protection technology on either the tape or disc. Often it's indicated on the packaging. Copy protection is designed to stop illegal reproductions, so may block many recordings of copyrighted material.

    • 3
Connect a television to the "Video Out," "S-Video Out" or "Component Video Out" jacks on the DVD-VCR combo if you can't see video from the combo playing on the television.
    • 4
Forcibly eject a disc if it is stuck in the combo. Often, manufacturers will create a sequence of buttons to use that accomplishes this. On a Panasonic, you force the combo into "Standby" by pressing "Power" for 10 seconds. Then press and hold "Stop" and the "Channel Up" button together for five seconds, and the disc should eject.

I would like simple steps to transfer VHS to DVD on my Toshiba DVR620KY. I want to copy with the unit alone. Would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hi ,

Please follow the instructions below to record from VHS to DVD. You may not be able to record from some pre-recorded VHS cassettes due to copyight protection embedded into the recording. You should stick some tape over the copy-protection tab on cassettes prior to recording if the tab has been removed. On some cassettes, there may be a slide switch which needs to be moved to the record/rec position. All pre-recorded cassettes will have the copy-protection tab removed.

1. Switch on the TV and DVD/VCR and select the correct input on the TV for the player.
2. Set the player for the recording direction, i.e. VCR to DVD . . .

- Press the SETUP key on the Toshiba remote to open the on-screen menu
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight GENERAL SETTING then press ENTER
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight RECORDING then press ENTER
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight DUBBING MODE then press ENTER
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight VCR > DVD then press ENTER
- Press the SETUP key again to close the on-screen menu

3. Press VCR to select VCR mode.
4. Insert the cassette you wish to record and fast-forward or rewind it to the position where you want to start recording from. Allow at least 5 seconds extra if not starting the recording from the beginning of a cassette.
5. Press PLAY then press PAUSE immediately.
6. Press DVD to select DVD mode
7. Insert a blank DVD
8. Press the REC MODE button to select the recording mode (XP / SP / LP, etc)
9. Press the DUBBING key to start the recording.

You can watch the VCR while it's recording. When you reach the point where you want the recording to end, press the STOP key. You do not need to repeat step 2 every time you record. The player will stay in VCR > DVD recording mode unless you change it.

Hopefully, you will now be able to record from VCR to DVD. If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Regards,
BElectric

Vcr/dvd combo recording problems

You can use a normal set top box, plugged into the AV inputs on the combo, you could even use a seperate VCR for this, as long as it's recieving the signal you want to record.

Poor viewing with VCR

how do you have the combo connection and dish network hooked to the tv ? if you have an s-video , yellow RCA jack video or component video hooked to the same input then it will act this way, because two inputs cannot be on the same video input # on the tv.
is this what is happening? or how are you connecting it?

your model is "tuner free" that means it does not have the RF screw in connector. Buy one that has a tuner, preferably both ATSC(USA digital) and NTSC(USA analog)
