Computer is two years old and worked perfectly up until this problem. When pressing the power button to turn the computer on, it does one of three things: (1) the screen flashes bright white, and then the computer shuts off, (2) the computer starts to run for a few seconds with a black screen, then shuts off (3) the computer runs for a longer period of time, but the screen remains dark. Connecting to an external monitor during (3) did not work. The hard drive sounds like it's working. The battery is charged and there are no weird lights on. I am guessing it's some internal mystery problem but if you have an idea before I scrap it and post it on ebay, please let me know!!!

Hi. I think the LCD screen of your laptop needs a replacement because I think the backlight on that LCD is already busted thats why you need to point a flashlight or some sort of light just to see the display. Powerdraining your computer wont work because this already a hardware issue with the LCD, that's why when you switch display with your monitor it works fine. I would suggest replacing the LCD of that laptop or try calling Lenovo tech support if your laptop still under warranty so that they would replace it for free. This is no. to contact for your Lenovo laptop US/Canada 1-800-426-7378, Australia 1-300-880-917. Hope this Helps

The screen no longer flashes. It just turns on for a second, then turns off. Removing the RAM and hard drive made no difference. Performing an ESD also didn't help.
