My screen is purple, and my ps3 games display with purple colors.

I have a PS3 connected with HDMI cables to an 1080P lcd. The screen displays purple when playing a game. I have switched the cables to all of my HDMI inputs but same problem with all of the inputs. I tried other wires and the same results. However, when i connect through the AV componet wires it works fine, the colors are perfect. What is the problem? Please help!!!!

I had the same problem and i tried what you tried and no result. Came to find out it was my tv. Depending on your tv you have to programe it just like you had to program your ps3. And if that doesnt work its your monster cord. Ask some one at best buy to help their pretty good.

I had the same problem and tried every solution posted with no success. Then I went all NES on it and blew into the PS3 HDMI port a few times. It worked immediately!

I am trying to commect to my PS3 to an LG LCD tv which supports 1080P (Full HD). but as the game starts and when i check the TV it says 720P although the game and the TV both supports full HD. Do i need...

Hello there. There's a few possibilities. First, the obvious, do you have it set to 1080P in the Display Settings options? Secondly, are you using an HDMI cable? You need to be using HDMI to play games in full 1080P. I use the component cables (The red, green and blue ones) for my PS3 and when I'm on the XMB (that's the PS's desktop so to speak) it's displayed in 1080P but games will not play in 1080P, only 720P. Any old HDMI cable will do the trick, so don't get suckered by the price if you are going to pick up a cable!

MY PS3 DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORK WITH THE HIGH DEFINITON CABLE IT CAME ON FORA FEW SECONDS THEN SCREEN COMES UP WITH NO SIGNAL????

This usually happens when you first buy your ps3 and try to use the HDMI connection immediately. The problem is that the ps3's default output resolution is set to 480i out of the box, and when you try to use an HDMI connection first, HDMI can't do that resolution. HDMI only does 480p, 720p 1080i and 1080p.
See :)

This also happens if you move your ps3 a lot. As it is, HDTV's are either 1080p (full HD) or 720p (including 1080i). If, for example, your tv is 1080p, when you set your display settings in the ps3 menu, it will set your XMB, or ps3 main menu to the max resolution of your tv, 1080p in this case. The resolution will automatically adjust when you start a game, and that game has a native resolution output. That's why, most of the time, games will play in 720p, because that's there native, or original, resolution. This is also the reason why sometimes people have no display on there TV, or a black screen, and when they play a game, that will actually display. That's because your tv can ACCEPT that resolution of that game.

  • Have your ps3 in standby mode (red light).
  • Now, press and hold the power button in the front down. Your ps3 will beep twice. Let it go almost exactly after you heard the second beep.
  • Wait 10-15 seconds. A display will show up, and just answer yes to all!

PS3 hdmi only working on some displays

I have noticed using an HDMI cable that with some of the newer tvs you have to set up the tv also to enable HDMI for a game system. Like you said before internet tv and blueray dvd player work fine. Try adjusting the settings on the tvs themselves. I have a 50in DLP mitsubishi, and had a very troubling time getting my ps3 to work on that particular tv set while it worked flawlessly on other sets. And what I had to do was enter my tv setup menu and then power on my ps3 with both my AV and HDMI cables connected, it would pick up the AV first. Then I would alter the video settings on the PS3 for HDMI, and unplug the AV cable. Exit the tv menu and then reenter it. Then I had to setup my HDMI port from the tv to game in order for it to work, where you can set options ar usually like cable/dvd/sat, and so on. Without my TV being set to game that way it would not work. Try this and see if it helps. Good Luck.

While playing MGS4, or watching DVDs in my PS3, the lower half of my LCD TV is a shade greyer than the upper half. I am running 1080p through an hdmi to my vizio 32" lcd tv that is full 1080p compatible.

Hi:

1) have you tried using another hdmi cable?
2) are you sure that both ends of the hdmi cable are firmly fitted, such that there is no strain on the cable?
3) have you set the resolution to 'only 1080p'? i.e. make sure 720p and 1080i are unticked, in the Display Settings section, under System Settings in the XMB

Hope this helps,

Please leave feedback if everything is working.

Problem connecting HDMI cable

Hey there I don't see why your playstation 3 should be doing that other than the console being defective. Sony doesn't have this problem that often and actually this is the first time i have heard of such problem. Try making sure the the HDMI cable is connected at both ends all the way in and also make sure your Samsung is a 1080P which i am pretty sure it is and finally if you have a friend or another 1080P HDTV in your house i would try and see if your ps3 will support the 1080P feature. If you still have the problem even when you use a different TV then its the ps3 that is malfunctioning otherwise it would be your Samsung. Let me know how that turns out alright.
