Turn Travel Trunk into a Coffee Table

Making your old travel trunk into a coffee table can be a very good feature to add to your decore and can be a great conversation starting piece. The best part is that turining it into a coffee table is not a very difficult thing to do.

Most travel trunks are a little too short to be a proper coffee table so you are going to want to find some table legs that you like and cut them down to the height that you want the table to be at. If they are wood you can even stain them to match the trunk or other furniture in your house.

Things you are going to need:
- A travel trunk
- 4 table leg straight top plates
- 4 table legs
- screws and a drill

If you are going to stain the legs then you should stain the legs before you start and allow them to dry.

Using the drill screw the table leg plates to the corners on the underside of the trunk. Once the legs dry screw them into the leg plates and flit the trunk over. And walla! you have a brand new vintage coffee table.

Methods how to do white washing on pine wood?

First use a stain blocking primer such as Killz. If it is an item that is outside use a good exterior paint two coats. Inside items use interior paint two coats. Don't use exterior paint inside cause it can contain pesticides that can cause harm to you. Pine will seep sap for a few years so you may need to repaint sooner than usual.

What do I use to refinish a pine table?

Do you want it to still have the pine look?
if so, use a clear oil or sealer/varnish/urethane.
if not, stain it whatever family/species of wood you like.
then seal it.

How to prepare new knotty pine to accept a semi transparent water based stain

Wally, New wood should not require any prep. Although a light sanding couldn't hurt, the wood will accept your stain. Try it on a piece of your leftover wood first.

Does the wood really matters when it comes to coffee tables?

Hardwoods like oak, walnut, cherry or maple dent less easily than soft woods like pine and cedar. A "solid wood" table means it's made of solid boards. "All wood" tables are produced from engineered plywood or particleboard. I personally prefer the oak tables but it can get a bit pricy so you should take it into consideration.

Wood stain in carpet!!!!!!!

Try white, not gel shaving cream. Apply it with your finger by rubbing it in, let it sit for about ten minutes and then wipe up with a damp rag. This works on many stains and will not ruin your carpet.
