Speaker/headphone jack won't work

When I plug headphones in the headphone jack - get no sound. Is it the soundcard? If so, easy to replace?

Thanks

It may not be the problem of sound card,

try following:

1) try uninstalling/reinstalling the sound drivers from device manager.

2) put the laptop to sleep(standby) mode and than wake up.

Update, if the solutions work..

The speakers no long produce sound after using the headphone jack,,disconnected jack , still no sound

When you plug in the headphones, the jack itself routes the signal away from the speakers. When you unplug the headphones, the jack has contacts that close again, routing signal to the speakers. If the jack contacts are dirty, they won't close correctly. I suspect were you to clean the contacts, you'd solve the problem.

ibm sound card is not faulty, because you are getting sound with your head phone. The head phone jack have two functions 1. to give output to head phone 2. to disconnect internal speakers when you plug in head phone.
The jack for headphone in normal position not give connectivity to internal speakers.
SOLUTION : REPLACE THE HEADPHONE JACK.
I think it will help you.

Sound through headphones only.

Try the speakers on another computer, to see if they work at all. If they do, then the problem is the audio-interface on your computer (or DVD-player, or home-stereo system).

Can't hear music with headphones when logitech z5 speakers are plugged in.

Hey, you have 3 slot in your soundcard, one is for headphones or speaker, so you have to replace or unplug your speaker from the soundcard and replace it with headphone.you have to choose, not unless your speaker have a slot for your headphone.

My computer speakers just went silent in the middle of a song

Do the speakers have power? Check the fuse.

Where are you plugging your headphones?
Where are the speakers connected? Is it the same jack as the headphones?

Have you tried plugging the speakers into the headphone jack vs the soundcard?

Sound is working but internal speaker is not working

Connecting headphones to the system will disabled the internal speakers until the headphone jack is disconnected, at which such time the internal speakers should function again.

If you disconnect the headphones and the internal speakers are not re-activated, then there may be damaged to the microswitch in the jack. (Try rebooting after the headphones are disconnected too)

My headphones won't work!

look at the headphone jack, if it has 3 band, it is a stereo jack. the computer is mono.
you need a 2 band jack.
if you look at the jack on the computer, you will see blue(left) and green (right). you canna try to use the green jack.
go to any electroic shop and get a stereo to mono converter.

found them at last - they do exist! http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2173,CONTENTID=9817 try this next page (near the bottom): http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7&p_created=1083624908&p_sid=NbWLjZvi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NzgmcF9wcm9kcz04NDQsMTcmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PTIuMTcmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1 It appears that there is no associated software specifically for these speakers, they are a simple jack connection type - if they work on your walkman, but not on your pc then: the jack is either plugged into the wrong hole,or the volume is down in windows or in the application you are trying to hear or both (or on any special non-windows soundcard software).(ask again if you are unsure how to check this). Make sure your soundcard works by plugging in some headphones or speakers you know work. the only other thing i can think of worth checking is if you have used the headphone jack in the front of the speakers - this will cut the sound to the speakers by way of a small spring contact - sometimes this can get stuck open, but obviously not if they work on your walkman. maybe a bit of dirt got in there - just plug another jack in a couple of times to check. Also check if the volume control works fine when plugged in your walkman. Hope this gets you sounds :)
