Question about AT&T E2662B 2.4 GHz 2 Line Corded/Cordless Answering Phone System
Phone system consisted of base/answering machine and 2 cordless handsets. The base and one handset is fine. The second handset was unplugged for a long period of time without our knowledge. Now when I place that handset back into the charger, it continues to beep, and the display alternates between "Searching for Base" and "D51A PD". I've tried to unplug everything (including the base and the other handset), and clean the connectors (for the base and battery). I've also taken the other handset out from the charger and switched them around - same thing. I know when I first got these phones and had to charge them up before using, it would search for the base and then simply charge up. Is the handset dead? Any suggestions would be appreciated! THANK YOU!!
Found the following in AT&Ts FAQs for your phone, I'll leave only what might be relevant: # Charge the handset for 12 hours. After the first charge, the battery will quick charge in only 8 hours. Re-cradle the handset nightly for recharging. The battery will not overcharge. # Connect telephone line from base to unit to modular telephone jack. If cord is already plugged in, unplug and reconnect at both ends. Also, you may want to try another cord from a working telephone. See the owner's manual under "Connecting to Phone Line." (you can get the manual here on the product page in case you lost it) # Try a working phone at the jack. If another phone has the same problem in that jack, the phone jack is defective. Good luck, hope you work it out

Find the manual on the link below. Check batteries are charged preferably for a few hours then perform the reset as per the manual: To re-initialize the handset and base: 1 Disconnect the power to the base. 2 Remove the handset battery pack. 3 Wait at least 15 seconds. 4 Insert the handset battery pack. 5 Connect the power to the base. 6 Put the handset in the base to re-initialize. 7 Wait for handset to display READY (or handset name). http://telephones.att.com/docMgt/public/art/306/2255_.pdf

My E2562 handset 1 would not detect base and displayed D51A PD whenever I tried to manually register it. This fixed it:
1. Remove battery from handset.
2. Unplug base and unplug phone connection(s). Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in base.
4. Plug in phone connection(s) to base.
5. Put battery back in handset. Handset 1 should then auto register with base.
