Do you have a firewall? If so, it could be set in such a way that it is too strict. Also, if you are using a wireless card it is possible it is contributing to the issue (I once had a Netgear card that would not allow browsing to Google.) So, if you use a router/wireless card that might help us - as well as if you use a firewall and what brand.

Toshiba satellite c-55 labtop screen goes black

It sounds like your timeouts are set to do this.

You can check by right clicking in a blank area of the desktop. A display setup screen will pop up. Click on personalize and go through the items listed. In there, you will find a display setup parameter that will allow you to change this. You can also have it completely shut down your computer after a certain amount of time. This is great if you often walk away and forget to shut the thing off like I do.

Gateway timeout error 504

If your router is spitting out a 504 error, that usually means the site its trying to communicate with is down. More specifically, the server is not responding to the data packets being sent out, as such your router displays a 504 timeout error.
If your trying to access a certain web page or site, then its probably that groups servers or networking equipment having problems, and their is nothing you can do about it. However, if your trying to get to www.google.com and you get the same error, then you have a problem. If that is the case, you will need to troubleshoot your computer/equipment.

Everytime I try to log into facebook it another page says expired

well, the connection timer has timed out, It has to do with internet connection speed and consistency. If your connection to the site gets dropped, it's because the website doesn't hold it's connection open too long waiting for your computer to connect to the site, which ties up the server/network. once the timeout ends, your connection expires. Basically your computer only has a certain amount of time to connect to the site, if it doesn't, the connection expires. And Facebook is hugely popular. hope this helps.

All of a sudden I am unable to open certain sites.

Some hotels install a webfilter, to stop people looking at dodgy sites or using all there bandwidth on downloading music or movies.

If this is not looked after by a good admin then you will find that it will block site which should not be. best to call there support and see if they can sort it.

Laptop is so slow when closing down

If you have not installed anything, any programs or games,
anti-spyware ,anti-virus, and nothing set to auto. Then you just might have registry errors.

But if you have installed anything, some can hang on.

There is a registry hack to let it shutdown and close anything running quicker.

in XP & Vista

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/desktop

Double click on desktop,
in the key field, find (wait to kill app timeout) double click on it
and (edit string will open ) if it says 5000- reduce to 3000.
Says 3000- reduce to 2000.

In windows 7- it in a different place.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL

Double click on control and in key field -double click on (wait to kill service timeout) if 5000, reduce to 2000.

***** Set a restore point before you ever edit the registry******

I usually dual monitor and have programs open on both. now that i am at home i do not have my second monitor only my laptop. when i go to open a certain program it opens on my "second monitor" that isnt...

You should go to the display properties on your laptop while at home and disable the dual monitor setting. You should then have all programs open on your laptop screen and not on the secondary monitor. If running XP, right click an open spot on desktop and select Properties. If running Vista, right click an open spot on desktop and select Personalize. Go to Display Settings, select the second monitor and uncheck "Extend the desktop onto this monitor". Hope this helps.
