Question about Kitchen Ranges

Stove top range igniters always on--even with range Off.

Maytag Gas range top Model CSG5600CAD ser 19306149V (or U) 2

Even when the range top has all burners OFF, the electronic ignition continues to spark. I have taken a hair dryer to the valves--no change.

If I need to repalce parts; how do I access them? Thanks

The problem is accessing the parts. There is no visible means to open the top of the stove. It looks like a sealed unit. Do I have to emove the entire stove top from the counter?

  • nevergivein Jan 19, 2009

Problem was only partially answered. The bigger problem is how do I open up the stove to get to the part? I know what the parts are--I just don't know how to get to them.

Yes you will have to remove the top of the stove in order to access this part, it is located underneath the top assembly.

Igniter is held on by two screws (wet the threads with a drop of water or DW detergent for easy extraction).  After you have the screws out you can carefully pull on the igniter until you see the quick disconnect plug.
remove the bottom panel from inside the oven, then remove the flame spreader and there is the ignitor.
u can get the required parts at repairclinic website.just insert the proper model number and u will see the part number you want with its exact ongoing rate.order which u require.they will provide u. thanks.

The top of the stove should come off. there are several screws in the back that have to be taken loose to access the igniters themselves.try unplugging the stove for about an hour and plug it back in to see if that dosent help with the problem

You need to replace the ignitor or the solenoid/switch.

You can find all diagrams and parts entering model number here.

    Hi there.

The problem it is likely a contact in whiring , or a defective spark module, but before replacing spark module you need to test all other components, to ensure you are replacing the right part.

    Start unplugging the appliance.
You first remove the top assembly, by removing knobs, plate and accessories first.
Start checking the ignitor switch, if there is a contact in there, that was the problem:

That way you gain access to the Gas controls and wirings underneath:

In there you find all wiring to igniters, look for contacts , near to where you get the sparks, if you find no contact, one of the igniters may have a contact inside.
Use a multimeter to test what igniter has no impedance (compare with others), that is the faulty one:

    PS127108

    PS94737

If you do not find anything worng with igniters, test all wires for a contact, and check if one of the wires is shorting to the chassis:

If you still do not find anything wrong, replace the spark module, that is the most common cause for this problem:

    PS2003170.

I would like to remove the fuses that control the stove top on my Maytag oven so that i can use only the oven. ( i do not need to use the burners and do want to risk turning on the range top because i...

Hello, there no such thing as a fuse to control the top burns, if your Maytag is gas or electric.
The gas goes through a regulator to keep the range gas pressure @ 2lb. Then gas goes into aluminum manifold system for the top burners where each burners has a fuel valve in the manifold. Off of this manifold is another aluminum pipe with a little adjustment valve for the setting the flame on the oven burner in the oven.

Mama, it sound really dangerous with you stacking things on top of your kitchen range. Even when the oven is on it will vent hot oven air in the back of the top of range. Are you familiar with the Fire Triangle. Fire...needs three things, fuel, air, and ignition to burn. I hate to say it, but you have all three of these component to have fire in your home. By stacking things on top of your kitchen range.

Now, just a little word of advise here. DO NOT STACK STUFF ON or NEAR your kitchen stove, heater for you home or even around light bulbs and power cords. Ms. it seems that you are a very intelligent young lady. Just remember the FIRE-TRAIANGLE----it could possibly safe your live and home. I wish you many years in your life experience through time. Maytag oven will not ignite

If its a square glow bar it must pull 3.5 apms to open the gas valve. Round ones pull 2.5 apms. even though the glow bar is on it must be real bright. Has it been taken over 45 second to light the oven. You will need some way to check the amps. If its getting enough amps the safety valve is bad.

Maytag gemini gas stove. Ignitor problems

My experience with this is that it occurs when moisture gets into the ignitor area and shorts out the open and causes the spark. It stops after it drys out.

This is very non-techinical and I will defer if there is a deeper solution.

Tappan TGFS26C, Oven igniter not even

Lets take the oven problem first. Sounds like you have a Hot Surface Ignitor problem. This is the device that glows and lights the burner. You can buy a universal ignitor at most appliance or heating and air conditioning supply houses. Note carefully how the old one is mounted. You may have to make some adjustments to mount the new ignitor, but it MUST be close to the gas burner like the old one! You don't smell gas because the gas valve will not open until the ignitor is hot. All ignitors work with the same voltage, so simply connect the new wires to the old ones.

I'm not certain if you have a standing pilot for the stove top burners or electronic ignition. Remove the top panel to check. If you have a gas pilot, relight it. If electronic ignition, clean the ignitors. If that does not solve the problem you may have to call a technician, as these systems can be complex.

Hope this helps.

Oven stop working

In many cases, even if the igniter is glowing, the resistance may not be low enough to turn on the gas valve. The igniter has probably gone bad. ($50.00 to $90.00 for igniter)

Magic Chef Gas Range

Does this oven glows before igniting the gas in the oven? if it does this unit uses a glow bar ignitor in the oven and spark module for the top burners. If it you dont see the spark( or hear the ticking sound the there will be no ignition. Do you smell gas even if there was no ignition happening? If there's gas that eliminate your gas regulator. If it's only one burner with spark but gas won't come on then your gas valve is deffective. But if there's gas and no spark ten it could be poor grounding, wiring, connection or switch or even spark module problem. You to need call your local Appliance service provider on this one. I do not recommend anyone fixing gas related problem if they are not a qualified servicer.
