Sounds like a bad thermoelectric module. This module is what generates the power to run the fan. You can get replacement modules for these fans on eBay.

With the engine OFF, have a really good look at the underside of the deck. Make sure that the blades are not obstructed and are free to rotate.

Ecofan not working

The problem is most likely a bad TEG module or possibly a bad fan motor. The most common problem is a failed TEG module. Caframo will not sell replacement TEG modules as they require you to return the fan to them for rebuild but the repair is quite easy. You can find the exact replacement on eBay or directly through Thermal Enterprises. They even have a troubleshooting and repair guide for the fan.

ND error, pump runs, but sounds rough, took pump apart and found nothing in the pump or pipe.

If the motor is running but there is no water coming through, it would suggest the pump impellor blades are compromised. It's quite posible that the shaft that drives the blades has snapped. Is it possible to open the pump housing and rotate the blades manually whilst watching the motor to see if it moves? If one moves without the other, then its a new pump I'm afraid. WARNING! Do NOT attempt to do this with the motor connected to the electricity supply.

Why does a table fan slow down after some time?

Revolving blades in table fans pushes out air towards the front by creating a vacuum at the back of the induction motor. Other than providing air flow, the gush of air also cools the motor. Over time, esp if used in a polluted surrounding, dust collects inside the motor and causes friction in the shaft. If left for a prolonged period, this friction causes heat eventually drying up the lubrication, causing breakdown in the motor amature windings and also a leaky starting capacitor, thus slowing down rotation and also a complete failure.

2. Fans must be regularly taken apart, cleaned and lubricated. It is fairly easy if you are willing to learn. My India made Usha brand table fan is 48 years old and is still running smooth - just changed the start capacitor last year and my National ceiling fans are more than 35 years old.

3. In fact all moving parts in any equipment must be periodically taken apart, cleaned free of dust and grime and freshly lubricated. It will outrun your lifetime and serve the next few generations.

Our Eco fan does not turn. It fell on the wood stove once and bent the fram a bit , then it started working, now it doesn't at all. What is up?

It sounds like something is binding on it. Anything of this type (referred to as a heat engine or external combustion engine) need very low resistance. There may be a bent shaft or a small ding that is rubbing on one of the rotating parts. Good luck.

Have had this for 4 years, works great. Blades have stopped moving though still rotate smoothly by hand.

The problem could be with the thermoelectric module. You can easily test if this is the case by trying to run the fan off of any household battery. If the fan works off the battery then the problem is definitely with the thermoelectric module.

They are easily replaced by taking the two halves of the fan body apart. Just be sure to use CPU heat sink compound (thermal grease) on both sides of the new module before you reassemble the fan.

You can get the peltier modules from Thermal Enterprises by contacting them through email to or searching for Ecofan Repair on eBay. The CPU heat sink compound (thermal grease) is available at any "Best Buy", "Radio Shack" or electronics store.

Hope this helps.

Fan just stopped turning, even if the fire is going good, what could be wrong?

Bushings dried out at rotating shaft. Clean and Lubricate with a high temp. dry film lubricant.

The most likely problem is either mechanical binding (lack of lubrication) or a bad thermoelectric module. You can get replacement modules for these fans on eBay.

Ecofan only turns slowly

These fans can be rebuilt! Like many others, our fan died after being placed in the center of the stove top. I took the two halves of the fan body apart, and scraped the heat sink compound off either side of the power plate. I then applied CPU heat sink compound that can be found at any computer or electronics store liberally to either side, and put it back together. The fan spins like new, spread the word!
