Wireless device disappeared with Windows Vista installation

Windows Vista seems to have eliminated my wireless receiver that was working fine with my TrueMobile 1184 router before when I had XP. I can't even find the device in Device Manager.

Re: Wireless device disappeared with Windows Vista...

Unfortunately, you have mentioned the router, which is no longer supported on the Dell site, but not the network card you are trying to use, please advise so as we can try for a driver. I assume you have tried installing the XP driver, as sometimes this may or may not work.

I have a linksys WRT5G2 wireless and I upgraded my computer from vista to windows 7 and now my linksys doent work what can i do

I'm sure the router still works fine. You probably just need a driver for your wireless adapter.

Open up your device manager. If you don't know how to do's laid out here:

Look under "Network Adapters" and see if there are any yellow exclamation points next to anything. If there is, you probably need a driver for that adapter. You will need to provide the make/model of the computer if you can not locate and install the driver yourself.

If there are no problems with the may need to reconfigure your wireless network settings.

This site gives you a good rundown of how to do that.

We have a Netgear wgr 614 Router to supply a signal to our computer . As we have a large old house we need a booster to get the signal upstairs and we were provided with a Netgear usb adapter, which worked...

well unless ur house is 300 ft long or tall u shouldnt need a booster the wireless range of those routers are excellent

the usb adapter isnt a signal booster its a wireless device that receives/transmits the signal to and from the router

did u install the drivers for the usb device does it show up in ur network connections

I cannot install Linksys E3000 intyo my laptop I tried and was asked to get intouch with you for your help in installing it

If you have Windows 7 you will run into some problems you need to go to and download the most recent driver and then try you will most likely have to unistall the other driver.

The operating system on my PC is XP and I bought a new HP laptop with Vista. I cant seem to get the wireless feature to work now - it worked fine with my previous laptop running XP.

I'm assuming that your Vista has a built-in wireless.. If so, the first thing you need to check is if the wireless function is turned on (usually by pushing Fn + F2. Check from your laptop manufacturer). Then follow these instructions:

Can't re-install 2Wire USB Wireless adapter

If you are on windows vista it could be your driver. You can go into safe mode on the computer with F8 while the computer is starting up, then go to the control panel and device manager. Plug the adapter in and remove the driver for it. Download a new driver at and install it.

Connecting a router so I can use a second desktop pc

In addition to a wireless router you will need a wireless reciever for each PC you wish to have working simultaneously (assuming the PC does not already have a wireless networking capability) .

The wireless receiver is usually a USB or laptop PC slot device which you plug in to the PC and after installation of the necessary software (usually supplied with the device) you can surf wirelessly. The USB type wireless devices are about GB£20 to buy .

Wireless Adapter not working under Vista

Some device may not have Vista drivers or the drivers are still beta and they dont work always perfectly. Check which kind of wireless adapter is present on your laptop from device manager on XP. Then try downloading Vista drivers for your wireless adapter form wireless card factory website, and install them on Vista.

Wireless router dropping then disappeared

If other wireless hosts are connecting to the wireless router with no problem, and the windows laptop intermittently connects, then this seems to indicate a problem with the wireless card in your windows laptop. If the device is still under warranty, it should not be a problem to contact the laptop vendor and have it replaced.
