Acer Desktop won't boot after recovery

Hi

I have a Acer Desktop Aspire T180 PC ... It came with recovery disk.

I recently purchased a LARGER harddrive for it.

I checked Acer's website, and they say must use Hard Drive Prep applicaton. Which I did, then I went through and installed the recovery disk.

When I boot the PC up after this is all done ... It won't boot. I get a message to insert boot disk.

Has anyone ever done a recovery on a ACER (new harddrive) ?

tks

D.

Yes, but I prefer the idea of the BIGGER drive to be the master.

Why not use your new hard drive as a storage disc. Reconnect your old hard drive as it was before. Hopefully it will boot the computer again. If it does, shut down the unit. On the primary bus, set your old HD as master & the new HD as slave with jumpers. Boot the unit & hopefully you will now have a "c"&"d" HD showing in My Computer. Remember that your are dealing with Windows & what should happen & what really happens can be two entirely different things.

OK. I don't think you are actually trying to do a recovery. It sounds like you are trying to do a new installation on your larger HD. If this is the case, you will need the 25 digit Windows registration #. It should be on the side of the case. If you are trying to install XP go into the setup and set the CD-ROM drive as the first boot device. This should allow the computer to boot from the disc in the CD-ROM. If it does, install XP. If this works, go back into set-up and set the HD as the first boot device. I am not sure if this will work with a recovery disc. It usually works with a genuine Windows disc. I have no experience with Vista so I don't so I don't know if this procedure is will work with Vista. From what I hear, you don't want to use Vista anyway. I hope this helps.

Hi. When I turn on my Acer aspire t180, only the red button light up, but the green button does not light up . And then nothing happens. Please help me as im having the same problem for months already.

Im guessing the PC starts up flashes the lights turns off and repeats?

If so the hard drive boot sector is gone or damaged. Try to boot from the Windows disk.

When turning on my acer aspire desktop a black screen comes up with the following and wont start up: Verifying DMI Pool Data...... Update Success Boot From CD: DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND...

Ensure that you havent got a cd in the cd rom then reboot, press F2 or Delete to enter the bios and look for boot options, set the primary boot to your harddrive press F10 and press y to save and exit the bios, Press F11 and set that to boot from harddrive and let the computer boot, if it still dosent boot to windows then the hdd has become faulty, or has been wiped of the operating system and windows will need to be reinstalled.

I have a acer aspire t180 desktop with a 250gb hitachi scsi (ide) hd. I would like to know which hard drives are compatible so that I can exchange it. thanks

It's a SATA harddrive, not SCSI.

Serial ATA

Will use up to a 400GB SATA harddrive according to Acer.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics.
Another name is PATA.
Parallel ATA
Used to distinguish between IDE and SATA.

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI

Exchange it?
Your harddrive has the Operating System on it.
A new harddrive will not have an O/S on it.
(Windows XP is an example of an O/S)

It would be much easier to install the harddrive you wish into an external enclosure, and plug the external enclosure's USB cable into your T180.

One example of a desktop size harddrive SATA external enclosure,
(3.5 inch SATA external enclosure.
3 and 1/2 inches across in width, for a desktop harddrive.
Laptop HD's are 2.5)

Acer Desktop Won't boot up with new drive

Hi there,

You need to go the bois settings.... be careful there of you don't know what your doing.

The smaller cable is SATA and the one you are trying use is IDE.. your computer is set to SATA primary drive. You need to go to advanced seeting and change some seeting around to accept the IDE as primary. Please be careful you could end up messing your system if you don't know what you are doing. Please all the changes when you make them.

Please me know if you need telephine support at the time you do these changes.

regards,

Philip

How do you reset Acer Aspire T180-GB7Z PC

Perform a system recovery:
Does not come with recovery cd's - there is a program that allows you to burn the disks or
recover.
3 ways:

1. If in Windows - Start - Programs - Acer empowering technology - Acer E-recovery management -
click on Restore at bottom then "Restore to factory default settings"
2. Or click on Burn disks instead of restore
3. if unable to ge into Windows then Alt/F10 during boot right after Acer splash screen on startup
