You should either install the driver software that came with the card or insert into your PCMCIA slot on the side of your laptop of which windows will then identify as new hardware, then install the driver.

To set it up, when it is installed, go the your network card in control panel> network connections and right click on your adapter, ensuring it is connected or enabled.

Go down to properties and on the TCP/IP line, highlight it and click properties and ensure enable obtain ip address automatically is ticked.

Depending on your router as long as DHCP is enabled, to automatically assign your laptop an ip address, you should see the liitle pc screens flashing blue in your task bar on the right hand side saying connected and telling you the strength of your connection.

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.

My T40 will not connect to my wireless network at home. I don't know what to do, please help.

Make sure the wireless card driver is installed and working.
Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.
