Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a Western Digital external HD which I use for backing up our family computers. This last weekend it has decided to fail. The HD connects to my computer via USB but when I do the computer gives no indication that any device has been connected nor can I see any additional drives in My Computer. The Blue light on the WD HD flashes although it doesn’t seem as bright as before. Regards Mike Lilliman

You can check the voltage coming from the power supply to the drive and confirm that it is correct and you can also switch USB cables and ports but likly , you could be correct. The HD may have just failed.

I looking for a pcb boad for hd western digital

That would be on another WD2500JB Caviar harddrive

Either that, or start looking on the internet posting -
WD2500JB PCB Board, and see what search hits come up.

Here,.....let me try.............

http://www.hdd-parts.com/18100096.html

Before you replace it, let me ask........
1) Was it in a Desktop PC?

2) Was it in an external harddrive?

External harddrive?
Then suggest you obtain a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3883498&CatId=2780

In an external harddrive there is a small interface circuit board.

The Harddrive plugs into the small interface circuit board, and the USB cable is attached to the small interface circuit board.

It is this small interface circuit board that usually goes bad.

The external enclosure is just like the case of the external harddrive.
Has a USB cable going to a small interface circuit board, and the harddrive plugs into it.

Emachines pc keeps saying hard drive is failing

What kind of resources are you pulling on the pc everyday? For example are you doing heavy writing to the drive everyday such as video editing, ripping etc and how much air flow is your pc getting. If the case gets too hot or warm for long periods of time it can cause the hard drive to fail quickly. Lastly check your power supply male sure its pputting out the proper voltage to the computer specifially the connection to the hard drive. If its not stable the nit will cause your hard drive to fail.

Try changing the jumper settings to make it the Master instead of the slave drive

External Hard Drive isn't recognized on new Vista Computer

here are several possibilities
Bad Cable - Well it is probably unlikely, but I would first try another USB cable just to make sure the cable is not damaged.
2. Power Supply - Try another power supply if you have or can borrow one
3. Controller Failed – The Controller inside it has failed.
4.Drive Failure – The Hard Disk inside has failed. Drives typically have an average 5 year lifespan, some last longer and some can fail much sooner. Unfortunately, you rarely have any warning, thus the need for backups.

I have a external hard drive from WD Elements model number wd5000. The problem with the hard drive is that when I connect it to my desktop computer the computer recognizes that a usb has been plugged but...

Well you hard drive is on its way out the door it sound like it has a case of the "tick tick tick" and well not fixable but if you have info on your hd that you want there is a temp solution but I will not provide it due to its nature and last resort untill we know that it is 100% the issue at hand.

do you have a Air conditioner or any heavy appliances on the same circut as the computer ?

if so then its probably due to a surge in the power causeing the hard drive to fail. which is also very common with computers.

if you have a hard drive that you can use in replacement it would be great if you are able to open the external drive up and replace it.

also check the Western Digital website to see if your hard drive is still under warrenty and if it is great it wont take long for them to get you a replacement once your old one has been sent. I have had this happen many many times of the years and alot of the hard drive company's that I have delt with have been great about the RMA that I do with them.

Internal hd ata

If I am right on this one the 4600 can only take a 250gig hd But I was wondering if you could partion the HD to 236.7 gigs twice so the computer only recognizes the 236.7 gig hd you will see two drives in my computer once you do just format both partitions unless you have another hd and then you will see three drives just do the ones you installed or you may loose your operating system, I don't even know if that will work, but I think it is worth a try seems you already have the 500gig drive, can't hurt to try, I sure hope this help some what.,
