SOURCE: trane ac, inside blower does not stop

Hi, I want you to try a couple of things for me if you will. Go to the thermostat and remove the cover. Now if you have a small bladed screw driver, loosen all the screw on this next section and remove it. Turn off power to the unit, if it is a split system, turn off the indoor unit. Once you remove this section which is the thermostat you will see the subbase and wiring. Take the red wire loose and off of the terminal. You may have a red jumper wire going from RH to RC. Remove the red wire coming into the stat at either point. Give it a minute and see if the fan stops now. If it does, you will need to replace the stat. If not, depending on the age of your unit, if your high limit/fan control tripped, that will be the problem. Some units have a fan control combination high limit that trips causing the fan to run all the time. You need to take a look at your heater section at the front of it to see what kind you have. If it is a combination fan/limit. it will be inserted into the fire box. It is square looking box with a cover on it some with a auto/ manual button on them Sometimes the contats will stick causing the fan to run. They can be removed with power off and cleaned up. They will have a dial with a temperature reading on them which tells the fan to come on when it reaches this set-point and off when it cools down. It may have stuck closed. Check what I have told you with the stat, and this and let me know the age of heater and if it is a split system Trane with a remote condenser and furnace located somewhere else. Get back to me on this.

Hello Rich,NO you have a dual capasitor that runs both fan & compressor motors.Shut it down and let it cool off.You need the uf rate numbers & the volt rating of the existing cap (printed on the side)to get EXACT replacement. The wires plug in to the top termanls C, HERM &FAN.Worth fixing good luck.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your help and a quick response. The problem was the capacitor. $30.00 to fix the problem! You saved me a lot of time and money!"

SOURCE: I have a TRANE XR12

If a unit not operated for long time, chances to get rust over terminals and so power contacts will be poor. And also strcuk the compressor. No problem, by giving kick start by starting capacitor or power pack and also with new running capacitor, the compressor will start.

Better to call a repairman.

SOURCE: my trane xr12 wont run.

Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure to assist you. First thing to do is go to the furnace take off the lower blower door and locate the circuit board turn the power off to the furnace. In the circuit board there should ba a small car like fuse usually 3 or 5 amps check the fuse it is probably blown replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse and then turn the power back on on the furnace and check the operation of the furnace.

Temperature on the thermostat reads 78 and does not change even though ac is running and the room temp is 74. If I raise the setting to 80 the ac cuts off. temp does not change from 78

if the ac unit is over 7ft from the floor, that would explain what is happening
the thermostat only reads incoming air from the room and if that thermostat is higher than the people in the room , what your are feeling is the cold air but the unit is reading the hot air above you and will continue to run until the whole lot air up to the thermostat is cooled down
but setting the thermostat to a higher setting your are setting the thermostat to that uncooled air temp and so it will switch off

Trane XR12 Heat doesnt work after 15minutes of operation

Sounds to me like the outdoor unit is malfunctioning. Could be a control board going crazy, could be the reversing valve leaking. A trouble call to the local contractor is the best idea, preferably a firm that deals with your brand.

Trane xr12 heat pump switching to aux

Sounds like the compressor is not running. Possibly a bad capacitor. Check system in cooling, see if it cools. If it does cool then you likely have a reversing valve issue. Good Luck!!

Trane xr12, fan works but compressor doesnt come on.

Check the capacitor and contactor. You may have wires burnt at the compressor terminal from corrosion.

Trane xr12 blower stays on after first cool cycle run

Hello, this is usually caused by a sticking fan relay on the intergrated comtrol board. You may be able to tap on it to shut it off but eventually the control board will need to be replaced.

There is a time delay on the stat to the AC unit, in addition the AC unit likely has one also, so immediate activation as desired isnt likely, however in 10 minutes of asking for AC if its not on still Id check the time delay fuses in the service disconnect at the AC unit, its a small grey box with the power cords running to and from it, there is 2 time delay fuses inside this box.
