It sounds more like a timing problem. If it backfires through the carb that means the intake valve is open when the spark plug fires. Same with the exaust but it the exhaust valve that is open.

How do you restart a 2010 Kia Optima after it runs out of gas?

Hey. Put gas in and turn ignition on run and off 5 times slowly( don't start up the car) every time you turn ignition on you will hear pump priming for few sec at the time. After that you should be able to restart your car.

Backfiring and missing

possible couple of things
low battery voltage by the system not charging enough
overheating component in the ignition system--coil failing when hot
engine overheating- no air flow around head and cylinder fins from dirt and rubbish

My 1994 samurai idles really high when I first crank it, but later slow down. is there anyting I can do to ?

From a cold start my sami idles really fast, but as I drive it and the engine warms up it will idle correctly. Is there a way to make it idle slower from a cold start?
what engine ? 1.3 L
carb or EFI? (94 was first year of efi, and many have been converted this old)
but the answer is the same , that is normal.
on car its a fast ilde cam on the carb.
in EFI its on the software and in the IAC thermal valve.

How do can you roll start a 86 samurai

Engage two wheel drive. Switch on the ignition. Pull out the choke? Engage second gear and release the hand brake. Depress the clutch pedal and get the vehicle up to about 6-8 mph. Release the clutch and the engine should be turned by the rotation of the wheels - and hopefully start. Once the engine has caught, depress the clutch and keep the engine running in the normal manner.

Does an 86' sami have power steering pum and if so where is it located? thanks

If it has a power steering pump it would be right out front with a belt on it.
There would be hoses going to the power steering box or steering rack.
I believe this was an available OPTION. Was not on all units.

My 86 sami lack speed and power

The samurai tranny shifter's wear down and the shift pin tends to break cause slop in the shifter and making it harder to get into 5th gear.

1987 suzuki samurai engine problems

ok theres a pcv valve located between the carb and the valve cover. its screwed into the intake manifold. make sure it is hooked up. also check for any vacuume leaks. if you find any cracked hoses, replace them.

also for the guy whos sami sputters on turns. check the ground stud located above the battery on the firewall. if its loose or corroded clean it up and tighten it.check the ground strap coming from the distributor area between the engine and firewall. make sure its in good shape. alot of times the distributor o rings leak oil on the wiring and rot it out. thats easy to repair also. check your engine mounts by standing on one side of the hood and grabbing the engine and pulling it side to side. the mounts are known for wearing out. they are fairly easy to replce and cheap. about 20 a piece if not less.
