I have a 55" model#55p8288a. i replaced the coolant and now the lights on the projector will come on for about 5 seconds then shut off. the sound works perfectly.

Time to replace the lamp of you projector.Lighting up of the orange light indicates that. All the projectors comes with self disorganizingprogram. if there is any complaintexcept power supply that will indicated by the projector by its self disorganizing system.
switch OFF the projector for some time. then power it ON. if picture come then first of all reset the lamp hour timer. To do the same do the follwing
1. Press the menu button and press rear click button or select button
2. Select settings press the rear click or select button
3. On setting display select Lamp age and press the rear click or select button
4. Move the arrow to Yes and press the rear click select button
OK will displayed and wait for your conformation
5. Move the arrow to Yes and press the rear click or select button
if there is no picture when you switch on the projector then go for a new lamp. you hve to do the reset procedure after replacing the lamp. It is alwaysrecommended the you should reset the lamp hour only after replacing the lamp.

hi, its because ur lamps life comes on its end. its time to replace the lamp. after replacing u should rest the lamp timer to zero. if u have already replaced the lamp do the following,if not also.
1 Press and hold the Exit (up arrow) button on the projector for 5 seconds to display the total used lamp time. 2.Press Auto button the projector or on the remote control to reset the lamp hour to "0". 3. Wait about 5 seconds to let the OSD disappear. ok
Replace the CRT coolant. You can get the phillips CRT coolant replacement kit at the following link. The kit contains the coolant and the CD with instructions. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
My solution sounds dumb, I had the same issue. Took the lamp cover off the bottom. The screws were loose holding in the lamp. Maybe they heat and expand and eventually work their way out and the lamp doesn't make good contact. Just tightened mine up, the unit would power off after 45 minutes prior. Been on now for 5 hours, no trouble.
Sounds to me like you need a new control panel board which should run you about $150-$200 max! might be semi burnt out like mine was and that is what i had to pay not sure if this helps but hey ya never know :)
