Question about Compaq Presario Laptop

1 Answer

Booting up... I go to boot up my Compaq Presario and it won't load Windows. It attempts to, but ends up just cycling through the same options over and over. I have tried every option that the laptop has given me on the screen that says that a problem occurred whenever Windows was shutdown. Any suggestions on how to bring Windows XP up so I can look through files to find what caused the problem? Thanks!

You will have to boot from a cd in order to review the files.

the easy way is to download a copy of linux live-cd like this and boot it without installing it. Once in it, you can review your files, run antivirus, or make a backup.

Good luck!

From the boot manager screen you have to go
Change defaults or choose other options.
Then select Choose other options.
Then select Troubleshoot
Then select Advanced options
Then select Startup Settings
Then click restart.
This will restart your computer and will give you a list in which you will select from. It should be option 4

Compaq presario has fedora needs to get back to windows 7

What you need to do is put in the first restore disc. Turn off the PC. Then when you start you will see the compaq logo there should be an option to boot to boot order. Usually F12. If not there should be an option to go to BIOS. F2. You need to boot to disc first. Once you boot to disc follow the instructions to reinstall Windows.

Why won't my compaq presario 1250 load windows?

1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode).
Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.

2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Hp compaq presario SR5610F won't start. I get a blue screen with text, but it leaves before I can read it all. How can I stop the page so I can read it?

It can't be done trust me. You may need to boot to safe mode by pressing either F12 or F8 before windows loads to boot the safe mode. Some type of driver is trying to load on boot up the machine doesn't like that is causing your error.

I had this happen to a fairly new machine that it ended up being the video driver/card.

If you have the original Windows operating system boot disk or can get one via download, try booting off that. If the computer then runs OK, you will need to attempt to format the hard drive.
