Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
Hi! My PS2 is less than a year old and for the last two months I have been unable to play it properly. I hve only played it less than ten times in the whole year so it can't be an issue with the laser. All of the cables are plugged in properly and when you turn the unit on flashing white lines appear horizontally across the screen of different thicknesses flashing up and down. The bottom of the screen is not aligned properly either as what should be the bottom is up a quarter of the screen and the top 25% is on the bottom. Please help!! Thank you!
Hey there John,
From your description (obviously I can't say for sure but its best to eliminate the easy stuff first) ...
It sounds like you've managed to untune the channel you had dedicated to your PS2, which would make it more a TV problem than that of your relatively new games console. (Bear in mind, all it would have taken to knock the channel out of sync would have been for someone to have sat on your remote.)
So lets eliminate that possibility first:
Try tuning in the channel again, turn on the PS2 and scan through the frequencies, if you can't find a better picture than the one your describing it could be a number of things ...
Your machine is obviously getting power (so we can tick that box - your power cord is working ok)
The problem lies with the picture which would be your next port of call if the re-tuning solution doesn't work:
I'd see if I could borrow a friend's cable that connects the PS2 to the TV (or pick one up in a store - prices will have fallen by now).
Now if that doesn't fix it you've eliminated everything but the machine itself, which I'm relatively sure is fine.
Might be worth trying your PS2 on another TV (if you can) just to check that your TV's connector isn't dodgy all of a sudden.
Its funny that such a simple setup has so many elements that there could be fault in - just go through the process methodically and you can't go wrong.
I hope my ramblings have been some help to you John, please let me know how you get on.
