So what exactly am i looking for? Is this something the amatuer should not attempt? What would it hypothetically cost to repair?

Is IC8003 soldered, or is it socketed? Can I replace it easily?

    Thanks!

Hi,
Ok,
4 times blink is error code for Vertical Deflection problem and you need to check +15 and -15 volt supplies on D board and IC8003 is suspected.
Needless to say, check above in case you have enough knowledge and experience of big TV repair as high voltage shock risk is involved.
Thank you.

If you have no experience of TV repair then TV tech is best choice to fix this and ask an estimate.

Sony TV set, KV20FS120 BA6 chassis: light blinks, set isn't coming on. Why?

Sony sets like this have a built-in self-diagnostic function.
The blinks of the Standby LED are the self-diagnostic codes.
There may be more than one error. The blinks indicate only the first error.

Unlug the set. Wait 30 seconds.
Prepare to count the number of times the Standby LED blinks.
Plug the set back in. Count the blinks.

The above may be of little help. Your best bet is to download the service manual for the KV20FS120.

Why do we have black bars on top and bottom of screen

Originally when 16:9 TVs were produced movies were being shot in 16:9 so that you had a full screen. Now they are being shot in 14:9 as it gives you a more cinematic experience. This is due to the fact that colours look more vibrant when they are placed against a colourless/lightless surface (such as a black panel) as for the bars on the side of the screen LuciferStarr is correct; it depends on the format in which the video was originally produced. For example most older television shows are still shown in 4:3 but newer shows and movies are produced in the widescreen format.

Control of vertical TV image projected on the screen

You can try looking for 2 things

1. A button on your remote that says either: ARC, Ratio, 16:9, 4:3.... Some remotes have a picture of a square with arrows pointing out towards each corner..... I'm unfamiliar with this set, but it sounds like a widescreen, so give it a go

9 blinks, won't turn ON, but I can make it turn on with diagnostic

I'm suprised with nine blimks the set will turn on at all. You are in the service menu; be careful, you can render the set totally unusable if you change something. Try unplugging the set for a few minutes and plug back in.

Sony KV-36FS12 Lost Green

Hi!

Five blinks means - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

Please rate this solution as FixYa if found useful.

Thanks

'standby' mode and akb error number

AKB 66 in self diagnostic test means...TV goes to standby (shut-off) for AKB problem 66 times. AKB is White-Balance signal and it is not proper or maintained in your TV. So error signal produced and TV goes to shut-down state.
Regardnig Standby button, its available on remote only. If you push TV Power switch, TV will switch ON, push it again to OFF TV. Power Button on remote set TV in standby status and you dont need to push power button of TV itself.

Panasonic tx-29gf10x image not filling screen

Hi there, I have the same model, and I had a simular problem , except my picture shrunk from each side of the screen into concave arc, if you know what I mean. I thought it might be a faulty horozontal output transistor, so I replaced that but did not fix it.
Eventually the picture quality dropped namely it became out of focus and i couldnt refocus it. Then it stopped all together and I heard a ticking sound, which I found was
coming from the line output transformer. A Tech friend told me it was probably a cracked or burnt out HV Capacitor, so checked them all and ofcourse they were all o.k.
So I have come to the conclusion that the Line Output Transformer is faulty, I hope I
am right as they are not cheap.
I think I have the answer to your problem which is a very simple one:
Adjust the "vertical picture height," and it will bring the picture down and fill the bottom of the screen. To do this adjust the VERTICAL CENTER SWITCH by pushing it forward towards the tube , this switch is on Board
TNP 107985 which is located right next to the AV inputs on the back of the TV, the switch is a round white component with a lever on it, and is located on the top of the board, push it to the max forward position, this should help, but might not fix it enough
depending on how much space u have at the bottom. There are no other vertical height adjustments on this Model so it would have to be a faulty component, like a HV
capacitor or burnt out resistor, or not enough HT drive voltage, which suggests dare I
say it--- Line output Transformer, could be wrong though.
Anyway good luck with your problem, hope what I suggested helps.

Bow like image

You likely have bad convergence output ic's type #STK392-570.  These can be purchased at UED 800-648-6657.  You will need to remove the board they are mounted on to be able to usolder the old ones and resolder the new ones.  These will be mounted on heat sinks.
