To chud,
i think i know your problem. if you take it apart you'll see that the face plate buttoons are not soldiered into the main board. it actually just has a reguallar connector where it pushes in. I had this same problem. If you take it apart and adjust that connection the buttons will work fine. Mine in particular doesn't like to sit in straight it seems to work best if i till it a little I make sure it stays in place with a little electrical tape.
Over all this player is by far the easiest to take apart and fix little problems. If your unsure just look up a diassembly tutorial. One piece of advice don't force the screws out get a differnent size screw driver. the screws are made of a soft metal and once you strip them the only way to get it apart is tear the aluminum. Mine is held together with twine right now because of it.

so i took my creative zen (the same one as the picture) to the gym and did some jogging (NOT a good idea) which may or may not have caused my problem. it froze in the middle of a song and then after a while went back to the first song on the album. no buttons on the faceplate work, but all other side ones do. i have tried to reset it, with and without holding down the play/pause button but the player just turns back to the same damn album. my computer recognizes it and everything. so really my problem is that none of the faceplate buttons work. have i broke it? what should i do? is creative doomed?
