Is the primer bulb necessary?

Is the primer bulb on the Ryobi 725r necessary? There was a time when we did not have these primer bulbs. Can i just plug the holes in the tank and bulb and crank as in the old days?

I dont think you should do that since the primer bulb is what gives gas to the carb, on most models.

Testimonial: "There should be a "Maybe" answer to the helpful question because I really don't know if this is helpful or not. There is an additional fuel line that runs from the tank to the carb. I should have asked if the other fuel line feeds the carb before I asked if the bulb is necessary. My thinking was that the priming bulb just primes and that the fuel line feeds the carb once it is cranked."

You cannot flood the engine by pushing the primer bulb too much, unless the hoses are hooked up backwards. The primer does not push gas to the carb, it sucks gas through the carb and returns it to the tank. Top barb on primer is the hose coming from the return side of the carb and the bottom fitting is the hose going to the return fitting on the tank. Look inside tank, it is the one without the filter on it, just a flange with a hole in the center.

If you can see gas and air bubbles moving through the primer and into the tank the hoses are on correctly. If you see bubbles going in the correct direction and then reversing when you remove your finger from the bulb, then the check valves in the primer may be bad. Replace primer.

When you say the primer "gets hard to mash", do you mean it is hard to push in or is it very slow to refill and return to the home position? If it is hard to push in and the bulb is full of gas and the hoses are on correctly then there must be a plug in the line going to the tank or the vent in the gas cap is not working. If it does not return, then it is most likely a plugged filter, plugged line from the tank to the carb, plugged screen inside the carb or a stuck needle valve. The primer is creating a slight vacuum to pull the gas through the carb, which is what the carb does when the engine is running. If there is a full or partial restiction on the supply circuit neither the primer nor the carb can pull enough gas for the engine to run. May need to disassemble carb and clean out any varnish, gunk or plugged ports/jets. Use spray carb cleaner. May want to think about a diaphagm and gasket kit if you do it yourself. If you do not feel confident in taking apart the carb, then take to a repair shop.

SOURCE: replacing fuel lines on ryobi 767r trimmer

The longest, and sometimes smaller in diameter of the two fuel lines, goes from the carburetor to the bottom of the tank. Leave enough slack in this line so that the filter that attaches to the end will rest comfortably at the bottom of the tank.

The other fuel line goes from the primer bulb to just inside the tank, (about an inch). make sure that you get the right size fuel lines. The plastic coupling goes on the end of this line, inside the tank. This keeps the line from pulling out of the tank.

(HINT): When feeding the lines through the tank holes, cut the lines at an angle. They will feed much easier into the holes. You can than cut them off square, once you know that you have enough to work with.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Why is Ryobi trimmer primer bulb not drawing fuel?

Check the bulb to see if it is cracked, allowing air to get inside. If the bulb has lost its flexibility you might need to purchase and install a replacement bulb. It is a simple operation.

Ryobi 725r leaks gas from air filter and will cut out after starting up

This is a problem with most ryobi tools. From what i've read over time the gas lines shrink and need to be replaced. You'll need to replace both the lines coming from the carb to engine and the one connecting to your primer bulb. I hear there is a kit that contains both the primer bulb and fuel lines for this exact problem.

The second line comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the primer bulb. The third section of line goes from the top fitting on primer bulb to top fitting on the carburator. 2 Cycle Gas Trimmer will not start

it is normal to see air bubbles in line when pumping the bulb. to make sure what the problem is, try starting several times, remove spark plug. if dry, yes no fuel, remove the carb. if wet, place plug on engine block and look for blue spark. no spark means you need new plug, plug cord or ignition module

I need to know how the fuel lines should be connected for Ryobi 725r? There are three.

The line from the fuel tank that has the filter on it goes directly to the carburetor below the primer bulb. One line comes from the carburetor to the primer bulb. The other line goes from the primer bulb to the fuel tank. Primer bulb can be pressed to determine which side is pulling fuel (line from carb) and which is pushing (line to fuel tank).
