not drying properly - 4035bf6.jpg
These plastic blower wheel will get clogged with lint in front of them or they will strip out,get loose, and cause the dryer to be very inefficient. Get the front off and clean out the filter housing. Check the blower for looseness.

My natural gas maytag dryer does not provide hot air to dry the clothes. It apperas the gas is not igniting because after it tries it smells like gas. I beleive it could be the ignition source.

Check the vent hose for kinks . Also check the exhaust at the outside to make sure it has good air flow to the outside . A dryer either heats or not . Due to it heats , the only possible problem is vent hose blockage .

I was having similar symptoms and have finally solved my issue.

We noticed that clothes weren't drying as well as they use to...when using sensor dry they would come out slightly damp (just barely). Intermittently we would smell natural gas in the laundry room. After reading numerous forum posts, I decided to swap out the main control board because many people said changing the ignitor and gas valve didn't fix the problem. I thought that I had fixed the problem as we didn't smell gas for a few weeks.

Well, the problem did come back a few weeks later. I ordered a gas valve thinking that was the most likely culprit. The swap out that part I had to remove the drum which exposed everything in the dryer nicely. It turns out the exhaust tube had dislodged internally and a decent amount of lint was being blown inside the machine. Lint was everywhere.

The lint had built up inside the gas tube and must have caused turbulence in the gas flow which prevented it from lighting properly. I cleaned everything up, reconnected the exhaust tubing and taped it securely before putting everything back together. I didn't replace the gas valve as the original one ohmed out properly. The dryer has been working like new for several weeks now.

I hope this helps other with similar problems.

My dryer is not getting hot its not drying clothes even when they have been in for 3 hours

Is dryer getting warm at all. If it is your heater and t-stats are fine. Make sure it is exhausting to uotside properly. Turn dryer on and go to outside exhaust. you should leel air coming thru pretty good. If low air flow pull dryer from wall, disconnect hose at wall and using leaf blower blow the exhaust out to the outside. Impotant thing to remember is blow from behind dryer at the wall to the ouside. Not outside in. Also, electric works better than gas blower due to exhaust fumes caused by gas leaf blowers.

Dryer smells of natural gas

Of course, this applies to gas dryers only. If you smell natural gas near your gas dryer, do not light matches or a lighter and don't operate electrical switches or anything that might spark, igniting an explosion. Immediately shut off the gas valve that serves the dryer. If the smell is mild, ventilate the area, wait until the air is clear, and re-light your pilot light. If the smell is strong, move everyone outside, leaving the doors open to ventilate the house. Turn off the gas supply valve --located by the gas meter on the gas inlet pipe-- by rotating the valve one quarter turn with an adjustable wrench. The valve's oblong stem should be perpendicular (at a right angle) to the inlet pipe to stop the flow of gas. Call your gas supplier (or the fire department) from a neighbor's phone or a cellular phone outside the house.
