Unfortunately, manufacturers have decided we no longer need analog audio output jacks. I will never understand why. They do however still include an optical audio output connection. Go on Ebay and look up optical to analog audio output adaptor. Should run you about $20. You may also findnone at Best Buy but will set you back $60. Be sure to set the TV settings to PCM audio output. Otherwise you'll get no sound.

Can i connect dmp-bd871 to a home theater system

It will depend on your home theater system and TV. If your system accepts HDMI in from other devices and HDMI out to the TV, connect an HDMI cable from the blue-ray player to an HDMI input on home theater system. Then connect another HDMI cable between the home theater system and the TV. This will provide the best video and audio experience.

Another option is connect the HDMI cable from the Blue-ray player to the TV. Connect the audio output of the TV to the home theater system. (This will depend on the TV as well as the home theater system. Some TVs have digital audio outputs; others have analog outputs. If your home theater system doesn't have the same input as the TV's output, you would need a converter as well as the digital and analog audio cables. This is an example of one for digital to analog: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4907 .)

If you do not want to get the best picture from the Blue-ray player and your home theater system has analog audio inputs, you can connect the composite video out to the TV. Then connect the audio outputs from the player to your home theater system. (This means only an SD picture will be provided to your TV.)

Panasonic has the manual for the DMP-BD871 here: service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMPBD871-MUL.PDF .

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the other devices in your entertainment system or their inputs/outputs. Then I can add specific information for your system and any tips for setting up the system.

I would like to connect my computer to my panasonic sa-ht800v unit and hear the sound thru the surround sound speakers

In general, your PC's sound card (and its controlling software) will determine what it can connect to.

Even the most basic PC would have stereo analog output via the typical green 1/8" connector or a headphone jack that easily adapts to RCA pair for analog audio connection. Any Line Level input EXCEPT PHONO would accept the PC's output. The output level would be controlled by the sound card software and settings.

The SA-HT800's single LINE Input would accept the Green stereo audio or speaker output from a standard PC, once adapted. Select VCR.

Find your PC's Sound Controls and enable the applicable input. make sure the volumes of both Inputs and Outputs are turned up.

Though not applicable to theGemini, more-advanced sound cards and audio hardware would have similar adaptable 5.1 or 7.1 (paired) analog outputs and / or digital audio outputs that conform to the s/pdif or Dolby Digital standards.

I have no audio output from the tv except a digital audio output. Can I connect that to the surround system? There is also no sound from any other input, radio, cd player etc.

lstiff,
You don't say what system that you need the audio to be sent to so I will presume that the system of choice at least has composite inputs (red and white).

If where the audio from your tv is going does not have a digital coaxial input, the digital coaxial output from the tv can be converted using a external purchased converter online; they relatively cheap items.

The easiest way is to just use the composite wires as most likely all of your units have these inputs and outputs.

Hello,

Adjust the system's audio output settings. These settings are mainly used when the system is connected to audio devices that support digital audio output, such as AV amplifiers (receivers) for home entertainment systems.
1.
Confirm the formats supported by your audio device.
Settings vary depending on supported formats. For details, refer to the instructions supplied with the audio device.
2.
Select in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) under in_setting.gif (Settings) in the home menu.
3.
Select [Audio Output Settings].
4.
Select the input connector on the audio device. Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use.

Select all output formats that are supported by the audio device in use. If [Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI] is selected in step 4, the screen for selecting audio output formats will not be displayed. If [HDMI] is selected, you can also select to automatically set the audio output format. (In this case, the HDMI device must be turned on.)

Check your settings.
You can go back to the previous screen and revise the settings by pressing the in_left_key.gif button.

Save your settings.
The audio output settings are saved on the system.
Hints
  • [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio is set to be output from all output connectors by default. If you change the audio output settings, audio will be output only from the connectors that were set.
  • If you change the audio output settings, the system will no longer be able to output audio from multiple output connectors at the same time. For example, if your system is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable and to an audio device via a digital optical cable and you switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings], audio will no longer be output from the TV. To output audio from the TV, switch the setting to [HDMI], or select in_setting.gif (Settings) > in_soundset.gif (Sound Settings) > [Audio Multi-Output] and set the option to [On].
  • If you select [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] in step 5, sound may be intermittent or may not be emitted from some audio devices.
  • When using an HDMI cable, only [Linear PCM 2 Ch.] audio will be output from PlayStation®2 and PlayStation® format software. To output Dolby Digital or DTS audio, you must connect the PS3™ system and the audio device using a digital optical cable and switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings].
  • If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system.

Hope it helped.

Unable to properly connect the DVR with our specific A/V system. Request a current/new manual for this device (RCA DRC8030N) since we lost our original owner's manual. Would like to connect the TV with...

George-
I do exactly what you are trying to do. I take the outputs from my cable box (3 cables: comp video, left audio, right audio and plug them into the 8030 respective input sockets (input 1 on the back). Then I have the output video cable going to the TV. I connect the 2 audio outputs on the recorder to my stereo input for both audio channels so that the audio comes out the stereo system speakers. I use the AUX input to the stereo system for this. If you are using the RF from the source, then I think the same output from the recorder setup should work for cabling. Make sure the 8030 has all the right inputs/outputs selected in the main menu setups.
I hope this helps.

Help

you cannot get your tv to play surround sound through the speakers, but if your tv has either a scart 21 pin socket or an audio out, you can fit a scart to phono adapter and connect the phono plugs to the audio left right input on your sound system, likewise if you have audio left and right output(phono) on the tv, connect to audio in on your unit. You should have a choice of output channels on the system menu, similiar to DVD/video1/video2 or output 1 and 2 or auxilliary 1 and 2
